It's always good to be wanted. You can tell the season is in full bloom and many frontrunners are considering the possibilities. Such contemplations would be incomplete without the usual, "we want Bama" chant, at the end of football games. Washington Huskies are the latest and greatest to give voice to their ambitions Friday night after they humiliated Stanford 44-6.
There was the standard yet cacophonous “Go! … HUSKIEEES!” When time was running out on the sixth-ranked Cardinal, the Huskies student section chanted the clichéd yet perhaps accurate, “Over-rated!”
Then, in the final minute, came “WE want BAMA!”
“We want Bama”, like so many other sentiments in the social media age, started as an earnest wish and quickly moved into meme status. In 2013 two Oregon fans created a brief cottage industry by putting those words on T-shirts. We say brief because their favorite team lost to Stanford a few weeks later, spawning this parody.
Since then Ball State football fans have penned signs stating that they wanted Bama. So have Tulsa fans. Not surprisingly, so have LSU and Florida fans. Shockingly, so have Kansas fans. So has a pee wee team in Mobile.
More than a meme: Washington really wants Bama
