| FTBL We need much more NOISE!!!!!!!!

from what I could gather watching Saturday, the crowd seemed pretty rowdy. The Tulane game was crap, I agree, but last week it was loud.

The tulane crowd was ...well flat. I know I was just at home listening to the radio and watching on tv, the crowd seemed to understand what Saban is trying to get across to everyone. It seemed much more alive in BDS stadium during the WKU game.

I may step on toes here. At least, have a lot that disagree with me.

Crowd noise, in my opinion, doesn't have any relevance on the game with the exceptions of a few plays during the game. In those situations, the crowd responds.

What am I saying?

I think it is over-rated.

I can think of a lot of teams that have won, and won big, with crowds that aren't loud; subdued in fact.

Can it make a difference in a game? Sure, but not as often as most seem to think.

Good teams win no matter what. I agree. On the road you do not have that crowd noise for you. I think it is just something for the fans and creates a special atmosphere.

Agreed, 100%.

Does the crowd noise negatively affect the visiting team? Maybe, maybe not. Depends on their mental maturity as a team. But does it do positive things for the home team? Definetly in my opinion. To know you're playing for a crowd that wants you to win could play a huge mental role in the game for our players.

I was at the game this weekend and yeah, we got pretty loud. And I agree, I would like to see it get even louder!

Its the atmosphere is creates...I know I just played HS but I never heard the crowd until after a big play....but being even louder is great. Not disagreeing with you at all. :)

I know this might sound crazy but sometimes the crowd sets the tone (i.e. Miami '93 and Florida '05) and then the team goes from there. Would the team have done it on their own? Maybe so, but the crowd certainly didn't hurt. Florida starting off inside the 10 on their 1st drive vs. us in '05, the crowd going crazy sure didn't help them set the tone.

The crowd can sometimes almost will the team to win especially in 2-minute situations (Arky '07). Obviously it doesn't always work though (UGA, LSU '07 and others).

FWIW I thought the crowd was fine the other night. No complaints from me. Then again I sit down low so everything always seems loud down there. I literally felt the place rocking last year when Javy returned the punt vs. LSU.

I think that the crowd noise does affect the team. I think that the home team can really benefit from it when they are on defense. This is what the crowd should do:

1. When we are on defense, the crowd should makes lots and lots of noise. This is to try and make it hard for the opposing offense to hear and call audibles. This can and does work.

2. When we have the ball shut up. This goes for the band too. We want it to be easy for our guys to hear and for JPW to call audibles. Band and crowd noise to follow after big play, TD, Field Goal, Long pass etc.

3. When we are on the road we bring lots of fans. Thats one of our biggest advantages. I went to a Bama MSU game in Starkville when I was a student and I think we were actually louder in their stadium than they were. I can imagine that the team draws a lot of excitement from having a lot of support while on the road.

4. I also think that sometimes that we actually play better on the road in a hostile environment. I can imagine that silencing 80-90k screaming fans with a big play can be a good feeling for the away team.

But mostly though, I really don't think that this is something to worry too much about. The fans are going to react to differently according to the game situation. Bad weather, weak opponents and early kickoffs usually lend themselves to quieter crowds.

if i were a recruit going to a game for the first time, i would much rather go to a place where the fans were loud and into the game than a place where the fans are in their seats the whole time lounging.

Yup, I was at both and it was night and day in regards to crowd noise, understandably so.

Which is one of the primary reasons the "Official visits" are scheduled on big game weekends.

That said, you'll find a lot of recruits that talk about our fans but mention them because the ones they meet already know who they are, what position they play, where they are from, etc.

That means a hell of a lot to them.

I started this conversation so let me add some more opinions

I can only offer a opinion as a fan. To get the real and true answer we should turn to someone who played on the field. I have done this and I continue to state that the noise from the stands does have an effect on the players in the game.I attended both the Tulane and the Western Kentucky game. The noise level at the WK game was much more intense but it was NOT LSU on a Saturday night. Allow me to try to make a point. Suppose you were called to the middle of the field to receive a award. Would you like to hear a thunderous ovation or would you rather have quiet?
WE NEED MORE NOISE!!!!!!!We could even start a new "wave" by everyone shouting the name of the person who made the play to the high heavens and not just J.Jones.

All I can say is that every game I've been to, the noise level has been great. Some games tend to get louder than others...which is very understandable. As for it not being as loud as LSU...well, I somehow doubt there's that huge gap in noise level...and if there were...then good for LSU. I could care less about what goes on down there.
