🏈 Way-too-Early Expectations for next year...

I know, I know. 24 hour rule and all. But, I thought we should go ahead and reel things in a bit.

Riding high off of our 16th title, it's easy to start talking about #17 next year, at this point.

Let's keep in mind we lose 29 seniors this year, not counting early draft juniors.

Our DL should still be fairly deep, but we do lose a lot of playmakers this year. We lose Ragland and Lee at the 2nd level, and Cyrus Jones out if the secondary.

On OL, we lose Kelly (Piershbacher will slide over to C) and Dom Jackson. Dom isn't a bad loss at all, though. He was the direct result of so many negative plays either thru penalties or whiffed blocks, that anything with a pulse will be an upgrade there. But, with Warmack, Cotton, and Hassenauer waiting in the wings, we should be fine at OL. It will take a few games to start gelling, but that should be a formidable unit by the midpoint of the season.

I think our two toughest conference games next year will be LSWho, and UcheaT. Chad Kelly announced he's staying at Ole Piss, so they will be another tough one. But, UT is on the upswing, and don't lose a lot of players. We could very easily drop 1, maybe 2 of those 3 games.

We'll be breaking in a new and very young QB, but I'm excited to see what Kiffin can do in shaping whomever that is.

Could we legitimately be in the hunt for #17 next year? It's possible. Talent abounds on next year's roster. But, we also lose a lot of team leadership. How returning players step into key leadership roles will be pivotal to our success.

But, all that in mind... I'd be happy with a 10 or 11 win season and a Sugar Bowl win.

What say you guys and gals?

I expect a step back with the defensive backfield being the strong point of the team. Foster will be OK moving to RR's spot. The DL loses a lot of depth and experience but the talent really doesn't fall off much with Hand, Payne, et al. We'll see flashes of the future at the QB spot, but the operative word is "future." I'd be OK with Dabo winning it all next year if we can't, which I don't expect. They played like mofo's last night a deserve another shot.

The D Line loses the most... It's looking like the only returners with legit experience will be Tomlinson, Payne, and Hand.

I agree that the OL should be good again! Looking forward to who steps in at RT. I think it will be Piersbacher with Hassenhauer at C. Who knows though/

Receivers should be siiiiiick. Get Foster back with Stewart and Ridley back. Charlot could be the secret weapon.

RB.... Huge question mark there. Let's hope Bo Scar has a healthy offseason... Some talented freshman coming in but he and Harris will be counted on.

DB's may take a slight step back... But so much talent stockpiled you never know. Hopefully Minkah learns from last night, he played great most of the year. Hump will be awesome. Mo Smith should be full time Star and some young cats will take over at safety unless Eddie Jackson comes back.

Replacing Ragland will be a bitch. Foster should be better... Not sure if Hamilton is ready for the big time, but we'll find out!

I kind of like that Cornwell stayed... Barnett needs to be pushed! Wouldn't surprise me if either wins the job next year... Although I'd expect Barnett to get the nod.

Should be a really fun offseason! RTR!
