šŸˆ ***Way too early Bama/Chokelahoma pregame Thread***

I'm not going to fall into the category of blaming the offensive coordinator for the players playing as sloppily as they did Saturday. I'm not going to blame Locks for Tua's decision on what options he was taking in a RPO offense.

As I've stated I don't have any issues with the play calling. I have issues with players not doing their jobs. But, that is the game of football.

We've mentioned a lot of things that didn't go well Saturday and the game had its own feel for everyone. But first and foremost, we looked tight. Those drops were just as critical and out of character as the throws that were just off.

2nd, we haven't been playing well since Miss ST. That's 2 years in a row we have sort of limped to the finish line and coach Saban may have to review his practices and physically. Is it taking a toll?

3rd was the circumstances going into the CCG and the team we were playing. They were playing for their playoff life and the deep hatred for everything that reminded them of 2nd and 26 all season long and they were constantly reminded of it all week leading into the game. Think about Alabama's motivation after the 2008 loss to Florida? And plus, they are gathering incredible talent. Alabama was being told by the experts they were in the playoffs even with a loss. Desperate teams play desperately and they did.

The first down play was money, but put that one on Tua. You run a stupid roll out to the short side of the field, get sacked, and then you throw a pick facing a 3rd and Goal from the 18.
Wait a second here. The offensive line gets beaten, Tua doesn't throw the ball away when he has plenty of time to do so, but it's a "stupid roll out" because the play resulted in a sack? That's not on the call.

Let's give credit where it's due on that 3rd down pick. The safety played Tua on that one. If you want to call it a bad read, OK. I saw a great play from their safety—one very likely coached due to how Tua tries to look off the safeties.

Ya know, it's eerily similar to some of the flak we've seen the kicker receiver when the miss has been due to the snapper or holder.

One thing I'd recommend to one and all is watching the All-22 coverage on these games. It's amazing how clear some things appear when you have that view versus just coverage of the ball carrier.
Is that archived somewhere... I know CBS had it live, but I can't find a "replay" of it anywhere...

I don't know.

**It's a bit of an investment (I believe the '19 version is 50 bucks) but you won't go wrong with a purchase of Snag-It. It's a great streaming video recording package. Hell of a screen capture piece of software as well. I love the feed especially when cast.

I've never liked rolling to the short side of the field, especially near the goal line. Reminded me of the 4th down we missed against A&M back in 2012.
You just limit the heck out of yourself. The line isn't to blame cause that play never should have been called! Harris two plays before ran for seven yards and drove the pile another three or four yards. You don't run that play there due to half the players on the field being packed into a very small area. I never said the pick was a bad play call, but the 2nd down play forced that play call. You and I both knew we weren't looking to kick a field goal there. Also hard to say the safety baited Tua when the ball was thrown to the middle if the field on the thirteen yard line. It was just a bad decision.

I went back and re-watched the game. Wasn't as bad as I remembered. Tua held the ball too long a few times. Definitely had 4-5 passes that were late or behind the receiver. Seemed to catch his rhythm in the 2nd half though. He definitely could have hit our running backs on a few easier passes. Leatherwood seemed to get beat more than any other lineman. Also, did Jonah have to come out of the game for a couple of plays because he was tired? Completely forgot about that.

I think it was the SEC Network postgame interview with Saban, I think with the group that included Marcus Spears, and they showed how UGA delayed the blitz until the protector went into a pattern as a safety valve, only to have a DB in position to cover the RB. What is usually an easy decision (LB comes late, back is open) wasn't there. Saban had that recognized during the game, so they'll be ready to make a better read/playcall moving forward. Good defensive scheme, though.

@TerryP , for those of us (mostly me) who just barely can turn a computer on, do you have a link for that "All-22 coverage"? Or where I can find it?
On the CBS stream there's the option to switch to All-22 at the top of the page. ESPN will be offering the same view in the playoffs, I'm sure. They've done so the last several years.

I don't know if it's available on the 'net anywhere. @94 Grad said he'd looked and had no luck.

A steady diet of the law firm of "Harris, Harris & Jacobs" is my expectation followed by a Play Action Audit by the accounting firm of "Jeudy, Waddle & Ruggs III"

For the Hurts/Tua package, I'd LOVE to see Jalen in one slot, Jacobs in the other (both off the line, obviously) with Damien in the pistol.

Then we motion Hurts and Jacobs into the backfield for a wishbone set.

THAT would fuck shit up.

The pressure is on the Bama defense to make some stops. Our two ILBers have to step up and do a much better job in coverage than they have this year. Out 2 safeties will be tested as well. Hopefully #24 will be able to play some snaps as a rusher and #89 could be a big piece as well rushing the passer. I am hopeful Bama plays from ahead and not behind.

I would much more prefer getting ready for the Sooners with 4 weeks under our belt. The difference between getting ready for a team in the first game and the second is immense. Which I think is even worse when we play someone like Michigan State in the pro set and turn around and get ready for a Clemson. Getting Clemson in the semi's was a big deal last season.

To be fair... our competition level raises a bit as we come to the end of the year.

Our only real team we played in the front half was aTm and I wouldn't say that was one of our better games played... at least not on defense.

The end of the year consisted of a highly ranked LSU, MSU, UGA and a rivalry with aU which is always difficult regardless of rankings. So to say we came limping into the playoffs is not really an honest statement. We've been in the playoffs for 4 or 5 weeks now...

Let's also look at the other top playoff teams...

Clemson didn't exactly "Handle" USCe well
ND struggled with USCw and NW
Oklahoma barely got by OkySt and WVU and struggled with KU

So let's try to not read too much into this "end of year limping" thing.
