Leading up to the College Football Playoff selection show, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit said he felt Alabama was one of the four best teams in the country, but added that Ohio State was probably more deserving of a Playoff spot.

He said that he’d walk off the set in surprise if Alabama got in the Playoff field, and he lived up to his word during Sunday’s show.

In the video below, shared on Twitter by @TheSpun, when the graphic of Alabama goes down, Herbstreit is no longer on the set, leading to the laughter of the other analysts:

Again, it’s important to note that Herbie wasn’t mad about Ohio State not being in the field. He was simply surprised that the committee made the decision it did.

The field is set, though, and the two semifinal games should be a lot of fun to watch. Herbie will be on the call for one of them, so he’ll have to remain on set during the actual games.

That article is a little misleading. Herby never said OSU "deserved" to be in more (or at least I never heard him say that). He said Alabama SHOULD be in and would be if we were going just strictly by the four best teams, but he felt like politics and how things turned out last year when they put in a non-conference champ would hurt Alabama. I also never heard him say he would walk off set if they picked Alabama. I did hear him say that he would be completely shocked if they did. The walking off set thing just seemed like a spur of the moment "oh damn they actually did it" thing.

Yes, I know he did, but I just thought it was funny the way this was titled. He kept his word too!

I hate Tennessee like the rest of you, but good for ole boy bringing up a very solid point about Herbstreit here. I personally didn't care about the middle finger to our fans, heated and hated rivalry, it happens, I get it, and no telling what was said and being said to them throughout the game. But for Herbstreit to talk up for that asswad Mayfield as if what he did was ok is beyond ludicrous. This is clearly a case of a popular player being given a pass over a lesser known player, which is exactky what happens and is ridiculed in the justice system when it comes to folks with more money.

Tennessee's Rashaan Gaulden calls out Kirk Herbstreit for conduct double standard

Yup. Good for Gaulden for calling him out.
