šŸˆ WATCH: Alabama commit Eddy Pineiro hits 73-yard FG in practice

Maybe the camera man is breathing really, really hard in anticipation.

I haven't bothered to turn up the volume and listen to the background noise. I can't help but think some of that may be due to what is being used to video/record the kicks.

Still...if he can hit one from 73 yards it should make a lot of us rest easy when he attempts one that's 45+ yards, right?

The wind blows during games sometimes too. I haven't heard of anyone making 70+ yarders regardless of the weather conditions.

There's a difference in kicking a FG of this length in shorts and a tee-shirt versus in a game and I'm not referring to facing a defense or doing it in front of 90-100K fans.

Just as one example if you take your normal adult sized football helmet you're adding anywhere from four to five pounds of weight a kicker has to carry; on his head.

Four pounds may not seem like a lot as a quick thought. There's no analogy one can really make (a bag of sugar balanced on your head?) but don't be mistaken it has a big bearing on a kickers balance alone. Then we start adding pads, etc.?

I haven't heard of anyone making 70+ yarders regardless of the weather conditions.

I have. There was an NFL kicker that hit one in a game last year (mid 60's) and there was video out of him kicking them longer in practices. There was video posted on several Bama sites with Griffin kicking 60+ yard FG's just a couple of years ago.

One thing I think is of note:

We're seeing punting averages rise a lot over the last few years with more and more ex-Rugby players joining football programs. We've beginning to see the same with ex-soccer players. Sebastian Janikowskin...look him up on youtube.

Back in the day some worried Janikowski might break someone's arm on a field goal block. Terry, I don't think he ever made a 73 yarder though. I was a big Janikowski fan.

Janikowski supposedly kicked an 82 yard FG during practice in high school.
I remember that. Seacoast, Seabreeze, Seaside (something like that) high school.

As I recall, there was an 82 yarder kicked in one NFL practice as well but I can't recall who kicked it.

When the NFL player kicked one last year that was 60+ I recall hearing SJ has had ten FG's he's made in his pro career that were 55 or more. If I recall correctly, it seems like there were four or five that were from 55 and the longest was 63 (in a game.) I want to say he kicked one of 70 or more in a pre-game warm-up.
