Originally, Carpenter had wanted to come in and play the left tackle spot left open by Andre Smith. But now, he's more open. There are other candidate there, so he just wants to play, well, anywhere. "I'll do guard if they ask," he said
It appears, to me, that the staff has talked to him about contributing somewhere else on the line with the anticipation of Fluker taking over for Andre.

FWIW, just to answer this question before it comes up...

Kerry is waiting on clearance.

I've seen a few comments today with people mentioning they've seen Preyear on campus. Evidently, from what I've gathered, he's enrolled as well.

Rodney indicated on TI TV last night that he expected 4 (those mentioned in this thread) and possibly as many as 6 to be early enrollees.

Doesn't surprise me that Murphy is having to wait.Is it the clearinghouse or U of A?

I'd think UA, but I don't know for sure.

If we get Vernon, which I don't think we will, that would make five. Who on earth does he have in his mind as #6 I wonder?

If these would all be back counters it would mean that a couple of the current frosh are on their on dime. Love and Barrett Jones could be the ones.

How does a kid graduate from hs early?

Just like college, there are a certain number of credits required and a certain selection of core classes. If they are completed, they can graduate early.

You have to remember there are kids in their senior year of high school already taking college classes. Heck, that's been the case for years. When I was at UA there was a guy I played golf with that had a class with me in the AM. He went to Central for a class, then came to UA for one, then back to Central for an afternoon class.

FWIW, got a call a few minutes ago that confirms Preyear is enrolled.

What do you mean by "On their dime"?

Paying their own way to make another scholarship available. The families of both of these kids are pretty well fixed.

But I thought the players that were a little lower down on the depth chart would be the ones greyshirt... Love and Jones both have good shots at starting next season.

Its not really a gray shirt. They are full time students and both have seen the field this year. If both of them were paying their own way we could have 85 on scholarship plus Jones and Love all eligible to play. This is just speculation on my part. If the back counters are more than three something like that would have to have occurred to keep us within the twenty five limit.

Since both played this year, even if they are paying their own way, they still count towards the 85. They only way around that is if they walked on, uninvited. They didn't.

I'd have to research it, but they may not count against the initial offers (25) in '07.
