First, let me say that timing and situation considered, I did not think that it was possible this time around for TENN to get a homerun coach. Really Sucks. I know (Shades of the Shula hire. I really feel like Shula was hired to be fired eventually.)

Dooley is "Solid", but not the answer your program wants. UT will be no better than #3 in the EAST if; 1) Urban Meyers does not retire-enough to change what UF is, and 2) UGA's Defensive whoas do not go away.

There is a shot against UGA, as they are starting year-one with their Defensive issues. But UT is starting year-one with everything.

Dooley needs several years in place to gorw his team, and grow himself frankly. I'm not sure the last two years have left Dooley with that option. So to half way answer the question, it depends.

But as a Bama fan, Dooley and the Vols don't scare me.

They don't scare me either, but if the administrators and AD are willing to give him the time to rebuild the program, I certainly believe Dooley has the ability to do just that.
It all depends on whether they are willing to let him make the changes that he thinks are necessary and the time to make them..

If given the time Dooley will make that team good. I also think it was impossible for UT to hit a "homerun" with this hire this late in the game. I agree with LBS in that Dooley was more than likely hired to "fill in" just as Shula was here. But, regardless Dooley is a thousand times better than Kiffin.
