🏈 Walk-On Transfer

I was reading an article about USC today that again mentioned Jack Del Rio as top candidate for the USC job. The thought occurred to me that it might be funny if Luke Del Rio quarterbacked Bama in a title game against his Dad’s USC team. Suddenly I began to wonder, if his dad was coach at USC, why wouldn’t Luke be the QB there?


We’re all thrilled Vinnie Sunseri didn’t follow his papa to Tennessee and I assume the thought of sitting out a year played a role in that decision. That being the case, are there consequences for a walk-on (like Luke Del Rio) transferring to another school? My gut says because he isn’t on scholarship, there probably would not be anything keeping him from enrolling somewhere else, but I just don’t know for sure.

Nothing wrong with leaving and playing for your dad...how many times do you get that chance in life.

If he was originally recruited by USC, he might not be able to. I think there is a weird stipulation around having to sit for a year if you end up transferring to a team you were originally recruited by.

A lot of the USC fans have been around this too. Idk, I have a gut feeling that Chris Peterson will be their next HC, but if it is Jack Del Rio, then I would not be at all surprised if Luke left and would not be against it.

Chris Peterson just doesn't seem to fit the LA scene to me. I remember reading he has a special needs son that is schooled very close to the campus and is very convenient for him.

Jack Del Rio, yeah, he'd fit and good bye Luke and good luck to him except when they play us.

I believe this is correct. I wasn't able to find much about it yesterday after a couple of brief searches.
