Losing their starting RB is obviously a huge blow....and from the looks of things...anyone stepping up and producing could be alot to ask. How much do yall think this will change their game plan ? It must have some impact on play calling....especially since they are a run first team...Anyone think that they may come out passing...and try to move it more through the air???? It has my curiosity peaked.... Im sure Beamers is too..

I think it's all a trick being played by Coach Beamer trying to catch us off guard.

It will change up the play calling. I imagine he will try to get some of those inexperienced RBs as ready as possible though. I recall that during my senior year, we went from throwing the ball 20-25 times a game to maybe 5-8 times when I suffered a partial tear in my rotator cuff. I could throw the short game but nothing deeper.

It is a blow, as Evans was a PROVEN RB, but they have much more TALENT behind him IMO, so the drop off may not be all that much... especially as the season moves along. Still, Evans was proven and had a great season... everything else is just questionable potential.

I think for playing against our defense, Ryan Williams is actually a bigger threat. Evans would try and go through us, and he would get eatin' alive. I suspect we see a lot of dumps and screens to Williams and the guy is MAJOR threat with some space. He's elusive and has great speed. We're gonna have to keep an eye on him. The other guy with some experience (though very little) is Oglesby. Kind of an anomaly in that he's got good speed but he's more known for his power. He's a bull and will try and his damnedest to run through our line. Then there's David Wilson who I'm sure they would have liked to redshirt. More talent and no experience. It's worth noting that Williams was the #3 RB in the country and Wilson was #4. The talent is there. Hopefully it'll take them a couple games to get acclimated. Not to mention, they shouldn't be getting much help from their o-line in this game. They are going to try and short pass us to death... and our staff will be prepared for it.

As stated in another thread...it takes a team used to running the ball 40-45 plays a game with a running back to do the same with converted special teams players and wide receivers.

I see a team bring a kitchen sink in their lunch pail. Problem is, it doesn't fit.

Unless Tyrod has become a marvelous passer over the summer (doubtful considering what heard about him and the Mannings camp) I don't expect them to suddenly become a team that throws 30-40 times a game. Since their power guy is gone, maybe some option to get Taylor and their speed guys out on the edges. Low risk stuff, hoping that if they can't move the ball their D will hold and they can get a big play or two from their special teams. Us getting a two score lead and them having to throw a lot would be Beamer's nightmare.

I would expect a few play-action rollouts. That way TT can take off if he doesn't find anyone open. Maybe a few QB draws.

They will try to establish the running game simply because it's their MO. When it fails, they will be forced to rely on a very inconsistent passer that loves to tuck it and run.

I'd be shocked if they changed the game plan. Taylor just flat out can't throw a la Kodi Burns. I honestly expect us to win this game and have from the get go.

If I was Bud Foster, I blitz the everloving hell out of McElroy and a new Oline. The only way I think we lose is if we have Sugar Bowl level O line performance or just an ungodly amount of TOs.

Based on what?

By his own admission that he likes to make defenders miss...basically not wanting to hit the hole and run over people....and the fact that he is supposed to be really good in space. Thats what I got from some of his scouting reports out of high school....sounds very similar to Bush IMO....especially if they utilize him in some screens / rollouts.

By his statements, I can now see what you were driving at.

By his performance, that's yet to be proven.

IMO VT will do what they've done since Beamer has been there. On offense they're a run first team, but they will give TT easy throws on early downs. Much like we did last year vs. Clemson. If Taylor completes a few and shows some confidence, then they'll stretch the field. They desperately need to avoid early three and outs. On defense they will blitz and load up to stop the run in an attempt to force G Mac to beat them, like evrybody else who plays us. They will be sitting on the short stuff, as LSU did last year. They will want Mac to have to hold the ball. I would bet they start the game with 8 or 9 guys at the LOS. Our O-line is a mystery and Foster will want to immediately see what he's facing. Also, they will want to show a lot of blitz looks to confuse the protections and force turnovers.
