I wasn't up on the details about how Kiffin was fired by Davis, so I tried to get up to speed.
Evidently, Al Davis hired this snot-nosed arrogant punk to coach his pro team, then shortly began to question his decision.
Kiffin responded by taunting the team owner, challenging his ability to fire him. "You hired me and I got rights, by golly!"
After Kiffin was shown the door, he proceeded to sue Davis for firing him without cause. Unbelievably, the lawsuit slung crap all the way from California to Tennessee, as the Raiders got UT involved, questioning the hiring and arrangement between Kiffin & UT.
I was astounded by Kiffin's attitude when he arrived in Knoxville, but now that I know more about his background, I wonder how anyone expected anything different.
Here's a quote from a letter Davis sent Kiffin while Kiffin was still working for him:
"Over the past months you have made a number of public statements that were highly critical and designed to embarrass and discredit the organization its players and coaches. I left you alone during training camp, the implication when you were doing these things, in the hopes you would cease your immature and destructive campaign. I wanted to make this work. ...
Your actions are those of a coach looking to make excuses for not winning, rather than of a coach focused on winning. "
The UT fans felt obliged to back Fulmer no matter what came out about his obsession with Bama. They had to be embarrassed, but couldn't admit it.
And now they get to defend Kiffin.:nana:
Couldn't hasppen to a more deserving fan base.
