🏈 Vinnie

He's leaving. He made it official yesterday.

Just to add a bit to this...

Yesterday was the last day a player that's leaving early could change his mind. Vinnie didn't, so there's no turning back from this point.

The 15th was the last day to declare, but guys leaving early are given three days after the deadline to file to change their mind and return to school.

There's not been an official statement from UA or from anyone associated with the Sunseri's.

There's an old adage that "it takes more than one piece to make a pie." There were several different things that, when combined together, ended with Vinnie moving on.

i always hate to see play-makers like Vinnie move on, but they must do what's in their best interest. only he knows the reasoning for his early departure. as such, i wish him nothing but the absolute best in his future endeavors.

it was so fun to watch him give his all on nearly every play and lots of time put his body in harms way just to make a play. i will surely miss him.

ROLL TIDE Vinnie and good luck!

I'm not sure why, but Vinnie always makes me think of guys like Tommy Wilcox and John Mangum. They were two of my favorite defensive players from days gone by. I felt the same way about Sunseri.

Guys that make it because they are smart and go all out every play. Lester and Rashad are cut from the same cloth.

I'm concerned Vinnie's cover skills will keep him off an opening day roster.

That's a valid point, but I feel there's a few things that need to be added for consideration. Vinnie, as his does his dad, thinks he's in a situation that is contingent on the system he's playing.

He didn't have the speed to keep up with those slot receivers when we were in nickel and he was playing the STAR position. He didn't like that position (part of the reason he's moving on) and he didn't play well in passing situations in that position.

However, if he's playing a true safety role? It is the opinion of the Sunseri's he can develop his skills to where he can man that position. They also look at him (if he's an undrafted free agent) as having the opportunity to make sure the team he "chooses" gives him a place to work towards that spot on the roster.

Is it good advice he's getting from his dad? Debatable. Sal does have his experience in the league. With no doubt it's advice given with an emotional component as well. I'm hesitant to use a stereotype of "Italian families sticking together" but it certainly fits.

Perhaps this is the case - it makes sense, but it's pretty rare for a DB to believe he's been marginalized by playing in Alabama's secondary under Saban.

That's true. It's not often we see a guy in the secondary get burned as often as he was, have that pointed out continually be his own fan base, and continue to play in the same position.

Doing something, or filling a role in this case, "for the team" can only go so far no matter the individual.

I know you won't disagree with the point it wasn't a position he was suited for...it was something he was placed in because we didn't have a Javy type player to fill that role.

Consider that, and weigh it with this.

What are the chances Landon would have taken the starting role when we are in base for 2014? Where would that have put Vinnie when he came in the game?

Now, weighing that versus stock draft...would his position have improved with another year here?
