...it's a short one, but one that has a few jewels in it.

The QB is the one I'm watching.

First of all, footwork. As he side-steps the defender he basically has an impromptu type of back-pedal. Off balance, then plants the back foot for the pass.

Take his body motion, stance and how it's definitely not your QB drills type of throwing motion and then look at not only the trajectory on the pass but how he hits a receiver basically going the opposite direction he's leaning.

I don't know...would this fall into a description title, "this kid has some arm strength?" I do see accuracy...

Thoughts?

What I notice about the play the most is his arm strength. The side step seemed pretty common. He does set his back foot to get some heat on the ball.
The throw had an NFL look to it. It's exciting to think he's improved since then. It was a beautiful throw though.

WOW, pretty impressive and we're moving back four years. I assume he has progressed a ton since then.

Both feet on the ground, great footwork, fast delivery and a tremendous arm strenght. Agree in the fact that this throw is a NFL type one. Seems he's got potential and Texas is the state of QB.

RTR,

That's the film I saw of McElroy that had excited me about him since he was recruited. His throw to Maze against AU didn't diminish my anticipation of watching him play. He has also been quite the team player in his backup role too.

Yeah I agree. I thought all year in 2008 he had a hell of an arm. My only question was how he would handle heavy pressure and can he bring the team back from being down in a game. But he knows the offense and he seems to want to take charge and be a leader. I have faith in him.

And the all around situation for Greg is perfect right now. Two years learning at the side lines and without any kind of pressure. With that amount of potential in the high-school level (seeing on film) and his experience at college backing up JPW, I think he could be the real deal by far at the QB position.

RTR,

Lately after hearing all this about McElroy I've been getting more and more excited to see him play. He seems like a real real smart guy and a great team player.

I've been thinking wouldn't Jackson playing QB be better for us as in if there's pressure he can move quick enough to get out of it?
What I've seen on film about Greg is he's got awareness and moves well inside the pocket, with a knack for picking up first downs with his feet. He's a solid all-around athlete.

Well, Star's potential maybe is even better in athletic terms, but I feel more confident with Greg at the helm because of his experience and knowledge about the offense and the college level.

Cory

There is a good portion of scrambling in the pocket that is innate, instinctual. It's one of those things that simply can't be measured until a kid gets on the field in SEC play and reacts to that pressure.

On that end, we don't have an answer on any player on our roster.

That said, when it comes to QB's and athletic ability I don't agree with those that point to a QB's 40 yd dash time and say "he's the fastest QB because look at what he ran."

I do pay attention to shuttle times with QB's because it is a great indicator of footwork, the ability to change directions quickly and athleticism.

McElroy, as a recruit, had a 4.28 shuttle. That's quick.

To put that in perspective, Pat White had a 4.42 shuttle speed at the last NFL combine. Greg's speed would have put him in the top 5 of this past combine.

Star has quick feet as well. The biggest difference in their true athleticism is I could see Star being able to play other positions on the field more quickly than Greg.

With Ingram, Richardson, Julio, our defense and other. I think we will see Star plenty this year in the 4th quarter as we will be ahead by 3 or more touchdowns alot headed into the 4th. I also predict at least 4 shutouts.

I can't wait for Greg and Star to battle it out during the Spring and Fall practices. Right now I am leaning towards Greg because he has some game experience and was the signal caller last year.Either way I think this will be a good problem to have and not a Zow vs.Watts issue from years past.

I do hope the O-line can hold their own so our QB's won't be having to run for their lives each down. Based off the video it seems that Greg does has pretty good pocket presence if that is the case. That is not to say that Star doesn't, but I was referencing T.P.'s video.
