🏈 VaTech looks horrible

Frank Beamer has almost reached the end of the road. I am afraid that VT may have another Bobby Bowden situation on their hands. Beamer has been a very good college football coach and he has been great for VT, but the end of the road is coming for Frank Beamer and the Hokies...

I've been thinking it's time for Beamer to go for a while. I never really understood the lovefest for him. I acknowledge he's a really really good coach, but at what point are 10 win seasons (something VTech would kill to get back at this point) not enough anymore? When is being above average not good enough anymore? Maybe I just don't fully understand the situation at VTech, but if I were a Hokie fan I'd be dieing to get over that hump that Beamer can't seem to get over.

I've always liked Beamer and consider him one of the top coaches in the country. I can remember not too long ago that Alabama would've taken BeAmer and his being "mediocre" without thought.

But, I do however agree that it might be time for VaTech to start thinking of changing HCs. But, if they keep winning then they'll see no reason for change

Two times over—literally.

I don't see Va Tech making a move in the HC department.

Offensive coaching? I've heard there are as many as two being replaced.

Va Tech's success on offense has always been predicated on the running game. Not only are they without that marque running back this season, we can't just dismiss they had to replace four of the five starters in 2012. Heading into 2013 they'll be replacing both tackles, which may not bode well for a passing game, but they will be returning the middle of the offensive line with returning backs as well.

Bud Foster taking over? That doesn't make sense to me. There's maybe four years difference between the two in age. I don't see that being a "change," so to speak.

ESPN stats show they had a grand total of THREE rushing yards.

Yikes. So goes Rutgers's bowl-winnning record. I remember when they were 9-1 and looked oh so promising .. Bleh. I do like Gary Nova though.

Yesterday's games should have been called the "not ready for primetime" bowl specials.

Rutgers had a BCS invitation within their grasp and took a nose dive.

Ohio did bounce back in a large fashion yesterday after dropping the last three games of their season. That's a team that was 8-1 going into the second week of November.

I couldn't get Aldo Nova off my mind during that game yesterday.

Damn I wanted some competition in the Georgia Dome

I wouldn't be too quick to judge next year based on what we've seen this season. It's a team that'll be returning right at 75% of its starting line-up.

I'll bet ya the fan base will be talking a lot more about A&M than Va Tech. It's no "gimme" game.

VT 2004 (10-3)
VT 2005 (11-2)
VT 2006 (11-3)
VT 2007 (11-3)
VT 2008 (10-4)
VT 2009 (11-3)
VT 2010 (11-3)
VT 2011 (11-3)
VT 2012 (7-6)

One bad season over a nine year span?

Maybe we are rushing to judgement a little too quickly?

Does anyone remember this game?

I agree, I think underestimating Tech would be silly. They are a talented team and just had a so-so year, a fluke, if you may. Playing on the big stage vs. Bama after a meh season will definitely have them gunning for the upset! I hope we don't see it though :)

VT is a lot like FSU, imo. They get lots of good players, have the preseason hype but somehow always come up short in a big game or lose one they should have won etc.

Before the debacle this season has become, the thing that always struck me is their mental approach to the game. They can't take a loss, and immediately put it behind them and move on.

I'd have to look to be sure, but I think it's something like five of the last seven years they've had back to back losses and still ended up with three losses or so on the season.

Clemson got them last year and they looked average in the bowl loss. The year before they dropped a close one to Boise State and James Madison took them the next week. I'm 99.9% sure the two years previous to those they lost back to back weeks in conference play in conference play. One of those years, 2009 maybe, is when they caught TN in the Chick-Fil-A bowl and ran over them. Of course, it was a 7-6 type UT team. Yeah, it was '09...Kiffin's year.
