🏈 Vandy - South Carolina game thread

A few thoughts leaving this game.

It's tempting to say UofSC isn't in game shape on defense. But, I'm wondering if it was physical or mental.

By the end of the 1st quarter, there were a few things standing out to me. One in particular drew my attention a lot.

I've seen kids take a play off. Now, they'd make contact with the opposing player but it was very evident they weren't going at 100%. I saw Clowney take a lot of plays off last night. On a few of them, he didn't even engage the offensive lineman literally standing up and watching the play without any pursuit.

I don't think it's too early to think UofSC has been reading their own press clippings, but it certainly is too early to say they have.

It's too early to make a judgment on Vandy. It's still a team, in my eyes at least, that never can be judged by the first few games of the season. I still think a bowl game is a reasonable expectation for the 'Dores. They travel to Northwestern for their next game.

I really thought Vandy would've been able to move the ball enough to win the game. A missed field goal (and having to attempt FG in general), a head shot penalty while on D, and a few other plays along with the D wearing down in the second half were the differences in the game.

I'm glad I got my one wrong prediction out of the way early...

Admittedly i only got to watch the forth quarter.... but was surprised & pleased to see Vandy still in there.
I feel like they fot robbed on that pass interferance call near the end. dude just reach in and tugged on the WR's arm.
Vid shows it plain as day. Intentional foul.

I was really hoping for a win for Vandy. i think they have been getting better every year last few years now.

Not going to say Vandy lost because of it, it would have extended the drive, but the clock was winding down fast

This was one of the worst non-calls I've ever seen. The ref was staring right them. No way he didn't see the DB grab the WR's arm. Stuff like that almost makes me believe the conspiracy theorists that claim the SEC office instructs the refs to help the higher ranked team. Almost, but not quite.

The way I see it is this. If the ref makes the call like he should have, it doesn't guarantee that Vandy wins the game. But, by him not making the call, it all but guaranteed that Vandy was not going to win.

Man i almost want to agree with you...but if that were the case....how does it serve the conferance to have vandy loose 60/70% of it's conferance schedule where if USC droped this one game they could still have a shot at atlanta even with the one loss.
Again, i almost want to belive the tin foil hats too, with what my own eye saw..... i just don't know. But you make a valid point....but i just don't see it in the big picture.
