šŸˆ UT football players arrested for armed robbery

Seriously? If they allow those three to play........wow, just wow. Im floored by the victim stating he was okay with those guys playing. Please correct me if I mis-understood that. I dont know about you guys, but if a player from Bama pulled a gun on me, I would want his butt in jail.

Armed Robbery is considered any use of force. Pulling a gun is considered use of force. Pulling a knife would also be considered use of force. Telling someone that you have a gun and will shoot in a attempt to rob someone could be considered force.

Armed Robbery is physical or intemidation used to deprive a victim of something.

Alright, don't know if the story was ever updated from the initial reports....

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Two of three UT football players facing attempted armed robbery charges have been released from jail.
Don Bosch, attorney for Janzen Jackson, 18, says Jackson was released on his own recognizance. Michael Edwards, 18, was also released on bond.

The incident happened at the Pilot convenience store on Cumberland Avenue.
Knoxville Police spokesman Darrell DeBusk says the three victims told officers that they were outside the Pilot waiting for a friend who was inside the store, when they were approached by three black men with a gun who demanded that they victims "give us everything you've got." The suspect were wearing black hoodies.
"(They) put a gun to my face and said, 'give me everything you've got.' And I said, 'I'm sorry, I'm broke,' " one of the robbery victims, Corey Zickefoose, says. "I knew he wasn't gonna shoot nobody. I could tell, he was hesitating."
The victims told police when they told the suspects that they didn't have any money, they took off in a Toyota Prius, apparently driven by a woman.
Officers stopped the suspect vehicle on near Gibbs Hall on Lake Loudoun Blvd.
"A felony stop was conducted on the vehicle," DeBusk says in the news release. "Four subjects were detained from the vehicle...In plain view, officers observed two black hoodies in the back seat [sic]. Underneath the back seat towards the middle, officers located a black, CO2 powered pellet gun."
"I thought the gun was real," victim Corey Smith says.
Investigators also found what appeared to be marijuana in a plastic baggie, in addition to a marijuana grinder. The female driver, Marie Montmarquet, 22, told officers the grinder were her's, DeBusk says. The apparent bag of marijuana was found in Montmarquet's jacket, DeBusk says.
Richardson, Edwards and Jackson were taken into custody, along with the woman.
The players are each charged with three counts of attempted armed robbery. Montmarquet is charged with three counts of attempted armed robbery, simple possession of scheduled VI and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Richardson and Edwards are being held at the Knox County Jail. Their bond is set at $19,500. Montmarquet's bond is set at $16,000.
Bosch says, "Mr. Jackson vehemently asserts his innocence and hopes to demonstrate that in the next 24 to 48 hours."
It's not clear what, if any, punishment the Athletics Department will level against the players.
"They can just let em play football, they'll be all right," Smith says.
"I think it should be up to the coaches, I don't know," Zickefoose says, adding, despite the severity of the charges, "I still love Tennessee, though. If it's gonna help out the team, I'm gonna go for that."
UT Athletics Director Mike Hamilton released the following statement Thursday morning:
"At this time we are currently evaluating the circumstances surrounding an incident involving Mike Edwards, Janzen Jackson and Nu’Keese Richardson. Any decisions or comments regarding their status will not be made until the evaluations are complete.ā€
The players were charged with 3 counts of Attempted Robbery. Bamasambo is correct on the girl taking the charges for the dope. The "3" is really meaningless at this point.

After reading the lastest story, I'm more in favor of Bamasambo's stance that they walk on probation. I could see a 3 year split supervised probation on these charges. Especially since the female is taking the dope charges.

It also wouldn't surprise me to see Jackson skate completely on this, especially if he decides to help himself, which it appears that he wants to do.

Argo,
Jackson will roll on everybody. The girl will take the dope charge and the other two will plea. Ain't tryin' to be a SA but I see this every day. DA's suck.

Agreed. I was under the impression that it WAS Robbery, not attempted. You know as well as I that alone makes a huge difference, although it probably shouldn't. Had I known the charge, I wouldn't have even brought up the different robbery charges, because with an attempt it doesn't matter.

After Jackson rolls, and they take into account that a robbery didn't take place, no one was injured and a pellet gun was used, I'm certain they walk with probation.

regardless of what these retards get in terms of punishment I can say Im happy all we've heard about from our team recently is all the awards the players are up for instead of what dumb sh*t they're doing.

They still have to face the music and embrassement of "be the first time a Prius was used as a getaway car. They could have gotten time off for being "green", but unfortunately they were using a pellet gun using CO2. Damn that felony carbon footprint!" Now that is serious.

When I read the warrant yesterday it said one of the players came from inside the store, walked up the car and said "we've got to get out of here."

So, it sounds to me—based on that—that one of the players wasn't involved. That player is said to be Janzen and reports have his charges being dropped.

I'd say that's fair for him if he wasn't involved...and the witness/victims statement confirms that.

So let me get this straight, if they had given them a quarter that would mean the difference between prison and probation? Since the victims didn't have anything no "robbery" took place. That is a thin line!

I do some work with a prison ministry called Kairos, and part of our work is with inmates on Death Row. I have actually become 'friends' with a number of guys in that prison ward. One such friend received a death sentence due to his part of a robbery gone bad.

My friend and another guy planned to rob a convenience store. My friend was the driver and the other guy was supposed to go in and execute the robbery. Do no harm, just scare the guy and take the money.

The second guy goes into the store and comes running back out a few minutes later. He gets in the car and my friend drives it away.

A few miles down the road, the two are pulled over by the police. The second guy panicked during the robbery and shot the clerk, killing her. My friend was charged and convicted of Capital Murder and was given a death sentence. The first he knew the clerk had been shot, much less killed, was when he heard the cops say 'these are the two who killed her.'

Even if Jensen did not hold the gun or receive the items taken from the victims, he was part of the group and had knowledge of what happened. Unless he agrees to testify against the other two, he would have some culpability. Now, if the Knoxville DA chooses not to pursue those charges is another matter.

Sounds too like the victims are guilty of providing an 'extra benefit' to the three UT football players - so the NCAA needs to perk their precious little ears up, or at least moreso than a 35-cent study guide.

I'm with you. I could see maybe getting a lesser charge, but dropping the charges completely? :headscratch:

The guys have the gun and they're out at 2 in the morning, and Jensen goes into the convenience store. Then all of the sudden he doesn't know what's going on?! What did the other 2 tell him? Wake up bud, we're going to get a Coke at the Pilot station. C'mon, get out of bed. You gotta come with us. C'mon!

Sounds like a case of you do what you gotta do, but I'm getting an attorney and fighting this. I'll throw you under the bus if I have to, but I'm not taking the fall for this one.

I'll be very disappointed in the Tennessee criminal justice system if he gets off with no charges.
