🌎 USPS...don't ever change

I don't know what I'd do if you started doing things well or that made sense.

I ordered something off of Etsy. It was It was shipped on April 29th (coming from Bellevue, NE). It made it to the Omaha Regional Package Sorting Center on the 30th. Then it arrived at the Omaha Distribution Center later that same day. Then it arrived in Atlanta on May 1st at 1:28 am. It left Atlanta at 11:57 am that same day. It arrived in Birmingham at 2:06 pm later that day. It was scheduled to be delivered Friday, May 2nd. Friday came and went...no package. Saturday came and went, no package. Later on Saturday, the status changed from "Arriving later today" to "In Transit, Arriving Late".

It made it from Bellevue, NE to Birmingham, AL in 2 days. Yet they can't get it from the Birmingham Regional Facility to my house. That facility is less than 14 miles from my house. I drive by it on my way to work and back home. I live just over 14 miles from where I work, and that facility is almost 2 miles from my work.

It absolutely astounds me how that happens. From 5 states away to less than 14 miles away in 2 days. And 2 days later I still don't have the package.

I really wish they'd turn over control of the USPS to Amazon or UPS. At least THEY get stuff here when they say they will. Hell, even FEDEX is better than the USPS; and I loathe FEDEX with a passion.

For me it FedEx.

Oh I hate FedEx, too. Like you just wouldn't believe. But the USPS is, imo, even worse. My FedEx hate stems from when I ordered a PS5. It was shipped FedEx and never showed up. It made it to the sorting facility that's ~6 miles from my house. Then it stopped. For 2 weeks it didn't show anything after that. So I went down there. They said they had no record of it coming there, even though I showed them through THEIR tracking on THEIR web site that it did. So it was forever lost (more like someone figured out what it was and kept it for themself). I eventually got another one ordered and made sure it was coming by UPS. I got it in less than 3 days w/ground shipping.

The thing is, the USPS used to be good around here. We had a mailman who delivered out mail (M-F) by 10:30 am...WITHOUT FAIL. He retired, and now our "regular" mailman (or woman) is whoever is working that day. It's never the same person 2 days in a row. And it gets delivered anywhere from 8:00 am until 9:30 pm. And it's a crap shoot on if we'll actually get the pieces delivered we're supposed to. I'm signed up for Informed Delivery. And many times, pieces that it says will be there, won't be. And one time, we didn't get mail 3 days in a row; even after the Informed Delivery said we were supposed to get something. But calling down to our local PO just gets you more frustration because the manager there won't do anything about it. And they swear up and down that they check all the delivery trucks to make sure everything was delivered. And they even got a new manager to make sure things were running better due to all the complaints. Nothing changed. Same ole', same ole'; every single day. And the drivers are usually on their phones while delivering (which is against the rules).

I'd be OK with them abolishing the USPS, altogether.

I get mail for people who live on the other side of town almost every day. I only check my mail like once maybe twice a week. 99.9% is junk mail anyway.

There are three streets that run parallel to mine. There is a house on every street that has the same house number. One, the next stop after he hits my neighbors.

They all have their issues. UPS guys around Marietta/Smyrna, GA and at points toward delivery have stolen countless Glocks. Seasonal FedEx guys have been caught dumping packages off backroads around Bham. I bought a laptop several months ago from Costco and had it shipped free to the store, and it was stolen by UPS along the way. The second one made it. And, there's not enough room on the internet to list my grievances with USPS, but I'll mention that they stopped doing background checks and many, many boxes of checks have been stolen at sort facilities, one in Georgia in particular. Some drug gangs have stopped selling altogether and now engage in identity and check fraud. One criminal took a stolen check into the bank it was drawn on and tried to cash it. The teller recognized the customer name and they stalled him long enough to be arrested in the lobby. The were the CEO's personal checks that had been stolen in transit via USPS. That's a good teller right there, recognizing the guy standing in front of her wasn't her boss...
