Urban Meyer says he plans to stay connected to the Ohio State University after coaching the Buckeyes for the final time in the Rose Bowl on Jan 1.

In a one-on-one interview with 10TV's Dom Tiberi, Meyer said he will be co-teaching a character and leadership course at Fisher College of Business at Ohio State.

Meyer also said he plans to work with Athletic Director Gene Smith in some capacity after his OSU coaching duties conclude.

Ryan Day, current co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, will assume head coaching duties following the Rose Bowl matchup between Ohio State and Washington.

Wow.

How many years does he need to collect retirement from Ohio would be my first question.

You are considered an Ohio State retiree if you are eligible to receive an OPERS or STRS benefit and at the time of retirement you have 10 years of continuous Ohio State service in a regular appointment of at least a 50% FTE.

Preparing to Retire - Human Resources at Ohio State

He can collect a benefit before that since they vest at 5 and 10 years but for full retirement it appears to be 10 of at least half time work. Hence co-teaching I bet.

If it's the State employment system and not the school, he could have two or even four extra years in with two years as a GA at OSU under Earl Bruce, and two years as Bowling Green's HC (if it is a public institution). EDIT - Bowling Green is a state institution.
I think the 10 years of continuous Ohio State service requirement would actually require CONTINUOUS service...
