UA Homecoming Week to be Celebrated Sept. 30-Oct. 6
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama tradition of Homecoming Week events will continue this year from Sept. 30 – Oct. 6 with the theme New Additions ‘Tide’ With Old Traditions.
The bonfire and Homecoming Pep Rally are set for Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. on the UA Quad. Following will be the University Programs Concert featuring Daughtry at 9 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum.
The Homecoming Parade will take place Saturday, Oct. 6 at 9 a.m., going from downtown Tuscaloosa to the UA campus. Bart Starr, former four-year letterman at UA, will be Parade Grand Marshal. After playing at UA, Starr went on to lead the Green Bay Packers to five NFL titles and two Super Bowl Championships.
The highlight of the week will be the UA football game against Houston at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 2:07 p.m.
The celebration begins with 19th Annual Roll Tide Run on Sunday, Sept. 30 at
2 p.m. The run is set to begin on Capstone Drive, with registration held at the rear entrance of Gorgas Library.
Paint the Town Red will take place Monday, Oct. 1 from 1-4 p.m. as campus organizations show their school spirit across Tuscaloosa. Students can pick up materials for Paint the Town Red and the Banner Competition at the Ferguson Center SGA Office. At 9:30 p.m., the UA Homecoming Bowling Tournament will take place at Bama Bowl.
This year’s Homecoming Service Project will kick off on Monday as well. All money raised will go to Cornerstone Schools in Birmingham to assist deserving families. Students can donate using their ACT card anywhere Homecoming T-shirts are sold. Contributions can also be made by checks payable to UA for the Homecoming Service Project.
Tuesday, Oct. 2 will feature the Homecoming Queen election from
9 a.m. – 8 p.m. in the Ferguson Center and Student Recreation Center. A food eating contest is scheduled for Tuesday at noon with the location TBA. Also, “The Urban Comedy Tour” will perform at 7 p.m. in the Ferguson Plaza and a Basketball Tournament will take place at 7 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center.
On Wednesday, Oct. 3, there will be a Homecoming Queen election runoff, if necessary. Students can participate in the Dodgeball Tournament at 7 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center.
Events on Thursday, Oct. 4 include the annual Choreography Contest in Coleman Coliseum at 7 p.m., the Battle of the Bands at Coleman Coliseum from 8 p.m. until midnight and the Banner Competition judging which will begin at 5 p.m.
