I haven’t seen any of it today, but it’s been that way for years now. Even most of the questions the coaches get are dumb. Media Days, other than being sort of the unofficial start to the CFB calendar, remains as overrated as humanly possible.

I heard a good bit of Hugh’s in the background. Nothing really stood out other than, again, some stupid questions. “Are you tired of talking about your golf game?” Arkansas girl reporter, “tell us about Caleb Wooden.”

Only clips of Lane I heard was his answer on the Saban rumor question, which was kinda dumb and his poke at Freeze on the golf thing. Which was weird, but predictable.

I was actually wondering if the circus was less wild due to a celebrity like Saban not being there or his successor wearing off a little question and hype wise.

They've tried to turn it into a big tv event, like they do everything else. Which is fine, and probably smart from a $ standpoint. But it definitely has a different feel than it had years back when it was at the Wynfery and crazy fans were crawling all over the lobby like ants trying to get autographs and photos. It was more of a spectacle back then, but it at least better captured what the SEC is about.

In my view, this is just another thing that's changed with the overall changes in collegiate football. I'm taking what I'm seeing and looking back a few years in context: who they were, who they are?

Lane is always going to be a bit of a cut-up. But, I didn't see his time this week as one filling the role of the conference "joker." I was taking into account the changes I've seen and heard about the last few years on Oxford. Freshwater lived his days but is no longer. I thought he'd use Ole Miss as a spring board. I'm leaning the other way now unless it is just that big of a job. It's not the same Ole Miss as we saw under Tubs or anyone else since then. They can beat anyone and he knows.

Hugh is a case in himself. The one thing I'll agree with is there is some talent on that team. The second tier of the SEC this season will be packed in my opinion and they'll be in that mix. Their eight wins (that I can see) won't get them in the playoffs.

I've had bits and pieces on since day one...choosing video clips over live coverage. I've not seen a players interview.

The one thing I noticed—going with spectacle—is I've never seen so many "beta's" covering SEC football.

From where I sit it's a combination of things.

His daughter on campus.
He started "passing" on the alcohol.
His dad.
His boy growing up.

His wife visiting more often in the last year, year and a half? The after-effects.

I see other things. IE: Oakland and USC: top tier jobs. Ole Miss: It's not on that tier but it's a place the coach can create the tier.
