🏀 Tubby Out at Minnesota

UCLA will not be content unless they are contending for NCs every year. Howland fell victim to that. He has had a lot of years where they did what they did this year: make the tourney and lose in an early round.

Kentucky fired Tubby because in their opinion he did not recruit well enough to contend for the NC year in and year out. I am not sure of Minnesota's reasons. They have become a middle of the pack Big 10 team, not able to keep up with Indiana, Ohio State, the two Michigam schools and Wisconsin. Not sure that a higher expectation is justified.

It took CM a while to make us a national program. At the end of his tenure things had slipped a bit, and it took Wimp a little while to put us back on the national map. Grant needs to have a big year for us next year, or their will be those seeking his scalp. He absolutely needs to make the Big Dance, and a run to at least the Sweet 16 would be nice.

As I have written before, we are missing a piece this year in not being able to match up with an opponent with two solid inside players on the floor at once. Will next year be better? Engstrom will be back, as will Gouye and Jacobs, and they all should be better players with another year under their belt. If Pollard starts living up to his high school reputation we will be solid in the inside postions. Our perimeter players will be our strength again. We lose Steele, but he really hasn't been a factor since January due to his injuries. All the others will be back. Expectations should be high, at least as far as becomong respected on the national scene.

Good answer.

Or, I should say good answers.

I guess at UCLA they still remember winning 88 games in a row and multiple championships. It's sort of like Bama insisting on high caliber play and championships in football. I don't think the Tide have ever been further than Great Eight in basketball.

That is correct. We have been to the championship game in the NIT twice, and lost both times.
