🏈 Tua wanted to transfer

Since when does what the event was "intended for" have to do with when and how news is made?
Since the days reporting news became a profession. It's what keeps journalism from getting the yellow adjective attached. What's so hard to see here? His speech was about kids perseverance--that speech has been queered to the narrative about him transferring.

Quite frankly, it's a disservice.

It would be a disservice NOT to report this. It's news, Terry. It's not like the kid was throwing out a random transfer statements, he was inquiring about a spot at USC and said he was out if he didn't play. Maybe not the news you or the USC fans want to hear, but I enjoyed it. :D
I would agree if they reported it accurately. If journalist are supposed to provide correct news as a service and they fail to do so that's bad service. It's a disservice to readers and the people being reported upon.

Poor kid... Struggling there.

He's right, a competitor wants to play. Especially if he know's he deserves a chance and doesn't get it. Never does he address what happens if he didn't play like he did in his speech... Where he would've become the biggest free agent in college football.

Glad things turned out the way they did. That decision had a huge impact on Saban's legacy.

Huge. How so?

Losing back to back championship games would have flipped the narrative on his domination in the big game... Instead he "orchestrates", or allows Tua to orchestrate one of the most dramatic comebacks in NCAA history.

In the bigger picture, that decision will likely account for 1 or 2 more titles... JMO

Kinda hard to know what would have happened with Jalen in the 2nd half is my view as it never happened.

Back on topic, ESPiN did a good job of twisting what was said to creating something in the offseason to talk about. Tua will learn a lesson from this with regards to choosing his words more cautiously.

Agreed. Can't let your guard down for a second anymore...

In regards to what Jalen would've done in the second half, thank goodness we didn't find out.

ESPN isn't the only one, pretty much every major media outlet has twisted it that way. Even NFL Radio on Sirius was pushing it the other day.

A lot of judgements being made on Tua, Jalen, Saban, and the coaching staff that are based on hindsight. That's cool. I get it. BUT, I don't think it's right to judge something/someone on the last half of the last game of the season...especially when people are critiquing games that came before UGA.

I honestly believe a lot of this comes back to one thing--the loss to Auburn.

The loss to AU.....right....
I have been a JH supporter.....steady...leader...minimum mistakes...let the D control things....
But JH was not goodvs AU...or Clemson...or first half vs UGA...we all know...
It wasnt just the UGA game is the hindsight....it wss the last 10 quarters...
And Aday...JH was not sharp....
Tua wasn’t perfect at all vs UGA....but....combined with a energized D...well we all knw the results...
Saban knows all this...fall camp willbe very exciting... there are making of a great offensive team....

It's interesting how fast Tua came out with the better context for his message. He knew the perception that the media and fans were giving it and he was quick to give it a more balanced take. Which brings me to Jalen's Dad and his comment about his son's free agency transfer. If that was not what Jalen is thinking, no way he lets that fester with fans and players, especially with the play this has gotten nationally. Unlike Tua, it's the complete silence in this one that has me believing there is nothing to correct.

JMO I believe #2 just might not return to The King for the start of June workouts and while you always need/want a good backup it might be best to get the "who is #1 QB" out of the way early in the process . #2 can pick a school and sit out a year and then have 2 full years (plus his practice year) to try and be the man at his new school. New-Braska might be a great spot for him.

I hope Jalen stays and puts up a hell of a fight. But I understand if he takes a different course. I won't hold anything against him. Truth be told, I hope he beats Tua for the job.

He's done a hell of a job representing himself, the team, and the University. Best I've ever seen...can't say I've ever seen someone deal with what he has in the way he did.

Crazy how fast fans forget what he's done.

I'd hire the guy immediately truth be told based on his poise alone.

Why is Jalen on the Leadership Council / team bonding trips that are happening after spring camp?

The answer is coming by June.....If he returns for the summer workouts then I don't see why he wouldn't return for the fall deal as well. Then again Blake Barnett had a different plan as well.

Could be. But even if he takes it to fall camp to make it official, he still hasn't lost any playing time. I guess for me, it's the idea that he has to sit out the "18" season either way. I hope he decides to stick it out one more season, give coach Saban an opportunity to show how he wants this to work. If he doesn't like his role he can go the grad transfer route.

Why is Jalen on the Leadership Council / team bonding trips that are happening after spring camp?

A combination of 3 reasons:

1. He's a great kid, and wants to learn how to lead and be a leader

2. Tua was injured, so Jalen was able to finish the Spring without being clearly beaten out. Which in turn allowed Saban to tell a convenient truth that the job is up for grabs (which likely wouldn't have been the case if Tua was healthy).

3. Jalen is OK with splitting snaps next year with Tua. They like each other and he loves Alabama. Also know's he will graduate next season and be the most exciting free agent pickup for a team in need of a dual threat QB.

I think it all boils down to what Jalen wants to do post college. If he wants to be a coach or go into his field of study, then he should probably transfer(either during this offseason or after next season, when he will be a grad transfer) to be a college QB elsewhere. If he wants to play in the NFL, stay, learn another position, he has the strength and athleticism to be a RB, slot WR, LB or S.
