🏈 Tua Tagovailoa

yes... i thought the substance of this post was going to be about Eli Gold's pronunciation of Tua's last name...

Maybe I an incorrect, but I thought it was pronounced Tahg-oh-vy-loh-ah and not Tongue-uh-vy-loh-ah

let me know

The first part of your statement here is exactly I was a proponent of shirting Tua. Unfortunately, there was no viable backup.

My only concern now, especially after seeing a walk-on getting some mop-up action Saturday, is why couldn't we have given Tua 2nd-team reps in practice and prepared the walk-on just to not fuckup a mop-up duty handoff, that way a shirt would've been much more advantageous in preserving a year of Tua's eligibility.

Tua can still take a shirt next year or the year after and let the freshman take on mop up duty to get some field/game experience... if he really is in it for the long haul, there would be a great advantage for him to do that.

Now, having said that... he's one big hit away from being the starter anyway... you can have your starting QB go down at any time.

Ohhhhh great idea...

Mack Jones gets mop up snaps next year whilst TUA takes his shirt year next year.

Then with both having the same remaining eligibility remaining, let them duke it out for the job in '19/'20.

Not likely, but easily feasible.

Just depends on what Tua wants or thinks he can do... If he's committed to Bama and not transferring, it would be in his best interest to take a shirt year his Jr year if Jalen stays his SR yr. You'd want to keep that Shirt year available in case of injury during the season, so no need to take it until Jalen is a SR if he stays.

I would love to see both QBs playing a significant role next year and beyond. I firmly believe that coach Saban is reinventing the wheel with his rotation patterns compared to past years. It's not a controversy and it's not going to be because Alabama isn't coaching it like it is. They are simply getting the best out of each guy with what they do best. And this is the important part, they do their job when the coaches decide it's their turn. Tua is throwing and running stuff suited for his strength and they are letting Jalen play to his strength as well. The score nor the quarter seems to change that approach much.

I've watched three raw, brand new, talented freshmen receivers, all come in at the same time in a game and play significant roles from the first quarter on when we have talented upperclassmen receivers all over the place. Which one of these guys will be redshirted next season? Answer: none. Tell me anyone has seen 5 running backs taking meaningful snaps from the first quarter on regardless of how successful the guy is before them? Any of these guys getting a redshirt? Nope.

We've seen much of the same thing this season with our D-lineman and LBs. There has been no saving of redshirts for LaBryan Ray and I believe I've seen Phidarian Mathis as well. Pruitt is playing practically every player we have in our front 7, at will, with almost contempt for the redshirt idea. Didn't I see Cowens out their Saturday?

So, suppose neither QB is headed anywhere but to a more balanced and equitable application of their skill set next season? Just like every other position on this team. Maybe this is the new Bama.

Maybe, but I'd like to see Jalen win the Heisman next year. Shit, he's already somewhat in the conversation THIS year, while being yanked early in the 3rd quartet of most of our games.

You like him so much you spell his name wrong?

Hell , I used the google to get his name cause I sure as hell didn’t know how to spell it ....

I guess I looked up some pineapple wrangler in Hawaii...

thanks for pointing it out . Don’t know how to fix it though , this is like my second thread ...
Still slowly learning this stuff..

You have to be a stat stuffer most of the time to win that thing. I'd rather have a dual threat, dual-threat QBs at the position that puts the fear of god into the enemy. I don't even see this happening in the near future for the one position at Alabama that people will actually vote for, the running back. And these guys are as good as any we've had. We are the victim of great recruiting if that's even possible to say with a straight face.

I don't believe Tua can receive a redshirt anymore in his college career. Or at least that was what we came up with after the question was posed at the beginning of the year.

There is no such thing as a "redshirt"... no forms to fill out not official designation in the NCAA for it. What it refers to is that you are allotted 5 years to play 4. That 5th extra year to play 4 is what is referred to as a redshirt year. If you sit out any year and don't play in a game, you would "redshirted" that year... but it's just a term the media uses.

As for the medial redshirt, it's actually called a medical hardship waiver. It basically acts as if you've not played that year at all if you get injured during the 1st part of the season and can't play again that year. You still have to follow the 5 to play 4 rule, so if you've used a "redshirt" year you'd need to apply for a 6th year of eligibility get any usefulness out of a medical hardship waiver. That 6th year is a bit hard to get if you've used your "redshirt" year voluntarily... ie you were not injured; although, it seems the NCAA has been a bit more slack on that of late.

I wonder how many minutes Jalen has played this year vs how many Lamar Jackson or Baker Mayfield have played?
