What does Tua Tagovailoa think of Alabama adding another QB commit?
Alabama flipped a commitment from four-star quarterback Mac Jones Tuesday evening, and the immediate question became how Crimson Tide quarterback pledge Tua Tagovailoa would react?
Tagovailoa could not be happier for Jonesā decision to become a part of the Alabama family now. As far as Tagovailoaās commitment status to Alabama is concerned, he summed it up succinctly.
āAlabama is my home for the next three to four years,ā Tagovailoa told SEC Country.
The decision to add another quarterback to the 2017 class did not come as a surprise to Tagovailoa. Before he committed, the nationās No. 2 dual-threat quarterback was notified that Alabama would be taking two this class. With that being said, Tagovailoa isnāt worried about competition with any other quarterback.
āIām not too worried about playing time,ā Tagovailoa said. āYouāre always going to have to compete for your spot. I donāt see myself at any other school.ā
Tagovailoa, who committed last month, said he had a chance to congratulate Jones on his decision before he went public with his commitment. The two had a chance to participate in the Elite 11 competition this past weekend in Los Angeles.
He was impressed with not only the football player, but the person.
ā(Jones is) a great guy and has a great family,ā Tagovailoa said. āTheyāre awesome people. I support his decision 100 percent. Other people could be very negative about it. This is just all what Alabama does with the recruiting process.ā
The Hawaiian star is on Alabamaās campus this week for the teamās summer camp and he has been in the ears of top wide receiver targets Devonta Smith (five-star, Amite, La.), Nico Collins (four-star, Pinson, Ala.) and Henry Ruggs III (four-star, Montgomery, Ala.).
Tagovailoa fell in love with Alabama before deciding that he was going to leave his home in Honolulu and attend a school 4,000 miles away. Just because thereās another guy at his position committed, donāt expect him to abruptly rethink his decision. He understands Nick Sabanās process.
āI totally understand what Coach (Lane) Kiffin and Coach Saban are doing here,ā Tagovailoa said. āAs far as thatās said, I am still committed and nothing has changed or going wrong with this trip. I still feel the same way when I first walked onto campus when I wasnāt committed to now being committed.ā
To add to that point, Tagovailoa raised some eyebrows when he retweeted a Southern California fan telling him to become a Trojan. Tagovailoa said that he usually just retweets whatever heās tagged in, and Crimson Tide fans have nothing to worry about.
āIf anyone is getting anything wrong out of that, thatās up to them,ā Tagovailoa said. āIf they think that Iām just going to go back to liking other schools, I feel like thatās kind of silly.ā
