🏈 Trouble in Knoxville: Players quitting, team meetings.

Isn't he a Junior? why on Earth would he transfer? just apply for the NFL or graduate and saddle up next year somewhere (is that what he's doing?).

He is a junior that was told last Spring when he went to Jones' office seeking to transfer, that the offense would change and he would be the feature I back. It didn't materialize until the bowl game after Hurd met with Jones again. He wants to transfer so he can get a year as a H back/TE and gain some experience before the draft. Something Tebow should have done to be honest.

In the preseason when all the sportswriters were touting UT as an SECCG contender, I said they wouldn't be able to handle all the positive pressure and would implode. I didn't think it would be this bad.

I know it sounds bad, but go back and watch the loss to A&M... the look in Dobbs face at the end of the game, says all you need to say. He wasn't just beat, they (as a whole) were BROKEN! And then to get 'Bama the next game..... there's simply nothing left in the tank for Tennessee.

Ha!
Ha!
Ha!

I suspect if you sit back and think about it you'll see the writing was on the wall.

From the sexual assault charges, to the Title IV settlements to avoid suits going to court, to the allegations of Butch Jones and the "code red" on one of the players ...
Then, we get to the pre-season with Shoop talking about how no one will run on UT ... combined with the national pundits and their prognostications?

When I look back at their story the last two years it ... well, just makes sense.

What was the code red incident?

Drae Bowles (Tennessee football player) helped the girl who was raped by another Tennessee football player. Players later jumped Bowles, Code Red means it was ordered by Butch.

There is a reason Tennessee is w/o a Chancellor and AD. Butch should have been terminated as well.

They really kept that one quieter than I expected. It felt like the news blew over in a day or two ..

Team unity and chemistry is putting everyone on the same page, but this one incident could have been the ultimate body blow last summer. It's hard to pull together on a team that has thugs who feel justified beating another player for coming to the aid of a rape victim and for giving the victim a ride home. If butch called this player a "traitor" the team knows that. They also know butch had to tell the team not to touch him. If so, reaping what you sow sounds reasonable. For those that may offend, how bout, cause and effect. Either way, it's poetic justice.

He announced his retirement back in August.
Just about a year in advance, as I recall. It's set for the end of June, or July, in 2017 as memory serves. Jimmy Cheek announced his retirement as well around the same time. Both are still in their positions.

At Baylor, they're gone, right?

It's happening at UT ... but, as with most things, on their own schedule.

Maybe this is one reason he leaving?

Just hours after his stepfather ranted on Facebook Live defending his Jalen Hurd’s departure from Tennessee and trying to set the record straight, a report surfaced of Hurd’s mother’s arrest at the Tennessee-Florida game on Sept. 24.

WNML’s Jimmy Hyams obtained a police report that says Tara Smotherman, Hurd’s mother, got into an altercation in the stands after a group of fans began dissing her son.

Per the Knox County Sheriff’s Dept. incident
report obtained by WMNL Radio, Smotherman was combative and `ignored verbal commands’

Smotherman’s actions were apparently not restrained to the fans talking smack about Hurd. According to the police report, Smotherman pushed an officer. She reportedly was charged with assaulting an officer and resisting arrest.
