A few of the ways Rick Pitino’s motivating underdog Iona before facing Alabama - al.com

Gene Hackman famously broke out a tape measure when his Hickory High team stepped into the state championship gym in the movie Hoosiers.

The point was to show his underdog team the foul line was just as far and the rim just as high as the gym back home. Once a disgraced college coach, he faced long odds in the movie based on an actual Indiana high school game in 1954.

That gym was Hinkle Fieldhouse, where heavily favored Alabama (24-6) will face tiny Iona at 3 p.m. CT Saturday in the NCAA tournament. The Gaels will be coached by Rick Pitino, fired amid scandal at Louisville four years ago.
