Top-Seeded Alabama Routs Mississippi State 85-48 in SEC Tournament Quarterfinals - Alabama Athletics

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 6/5 Alabama men’s basketball team jumped out to a fast start and used suffocating defense to overwhelm Mississippi State, 85-48, in Friday’s SEC Tournament Quarterfinal contest in Bridgestone Arena. The 37-point win set a program record for margin of victory in a tournament game.
With the victory, the top-seeded Crimson Tide (22-6) advanced to Saturday’s semifinal contest where it will face No. 4 seed Tennessee (18-7), which advanced with a win over Florida. The Tide and Volunteers will play Saturday at noon CT on ESPN.
Guard Jahvon Quinerly led the Crimson Tide with 14 points, while Jaden Shackelford added 13 and Juwan Gary had 11. SEC Player and Defensive Player of the Year Herbert Jones played just under 17 minutes and finished with eight points, seven rebounds, seven assists with zero turnovers to go along three steals and two blocked shots.

“I think we answered the questions about whether our guys can come out ready to play (an early) tip. I told them whatever they did do to get ready for that one, try to repeat it (Saturday). It was nice to get the win. The fact Mississippi State was able to beat Kentucky kind of made our guys wake up. Plus, they played us really tough two games in a row. I thought it was close all the way to the end both times we played these guys. I think our guys were locked in. Really goes to the senior leadership making sure the guys are locked in. I thought everybody gave us great minutes. Offensively, the turnovers were down, we only had nine turnovers, assists were up, the ball was moving. We made shots, but we didn't shoot it unbelievably well. I thought we took care of the ball and our energy was good. They ended up outrebounding us by eight. Defensively, I thought we were really locked in for a good part of that game.”

- The Tide’s 37-point victory was its largest in an SEC Tournament game in program history, while Alabama’s 28-point halftime lead the most in any SEC Tournament game since 1979
- Alabama shot 48.5 percent (32-of-66) from the field and hit 13-of-36 (36.1 percent) of its three-point attempts while limiting the Bulldogs to 29 percent (18-of-62) from the field and only 1-of-19 from three-point range
- The Tide defense forced Mississippi State into 18 turnovers and committed only nine to result in a big 30-11 advantage in points off turnovers
- Alabama’s bench scored 47 points with 11 total players scored in the game while the Bulldogs reserves finished with just five points
- Alabama matched a school record by accounting for its 17th game of scoring 80 or more points this season, and improved to 17-0 this season when accomplishing the feat

Hit a six team parlay yesterday for $1,600. Would have been more had Kansas played and won. Not that anyone cares, but I was happy. Would have been seven @TerryP , but I took the Florida/Tennessee over off at the last second for some reason. Was taking your comment about it being low, but took it off!
Nice! Well, except for that last part.
Here we are this morning and the 133 still doesn't make sense to me. Even with UT being as bad as they've been on offense I couldn't understand how it was that low. What's crazy here? Florida missed right at 20 attempts in the paint and the over still carried.
The media is making a big deal of Pons' nine blocks last night. I don't see how he didn't get a whistle on six or seven of those. That was a physical ball game last night.
Bama looks like a good play today on the spread and total. I will take Okie State to cover over Texas...gonna dwell on Bama for a bit before I jump.

Oklahoma State is playing some good ball right now. I most likely stay away from us as I am unsure of who will show up, but hoping our boys have a renewed focus.
I don't expect to see Primo today. I also don't believe his absence will be that dramatic to Bama's production.
That's not what's catching my attention. I understand Fulkerson to be out for UT today and that will force them to change their philosophy. He's their best rebounder and their most consistent guy shooting field goals. His absence should translate to about 7-9 fewer points for UT.
And, like Bama last season, UT has depth issues.
I was told he went for his MRI last night although I don't know the logistics. I haven't heard anything since then other than folks doubting we'll see him today.
Is this good for the Bama game? By the way, when was the last time the top 4 Had playing for the SEC title?

That is great news. Was hoping it would be a sprain but you never know until the MRI is done. Heal up young man we need you full strength in the NCAA tournament. Ok now time for some others to show out in todays SEC game against the Viles.

I knew he was going to be in concussion protocol after seeing him laid out last night. He's got facial fractures and a concussion.
