Trendon Watford stands out at the McDonald's All-American Game - Q&A on his final five schools and more

Trendon Watford had himself a great week at the McDonald’s All-American Game. From the first practices to the final game on Wednesday night, Watford showed a refined skill set and was one of the biggest standouts for the event. His recruitment was one of the biggest stories to follow during the event and he discussed the latest with Prep Circuit.

Q: What’s your experience been like here at the McDonald’s All-American Game?

A: “It’s been good, I’m trying to take advantage of every situation because the NBA scouts haven’t seen me too much. I’m just trying to embrace the moment and just go from there.”

Q: It recently came out that you will be making your decision on April 20th at the Jordan Brand Classic. Why was that the best time for you?

A: “I felt that was close to signing day anyway and I feel like on national television that would be a good thing to do. I just decided to do it in my last All-Star game.”

Q: Who are the schools that you are deciding from?

A: “Duke, Indiana, Alabama, Memphis and LSU.”

Q: Your older brother played for Indiana. What do you like about that school?

A: “My brother played there, so it’s like my second home because I grew up there. Coming up as a child I went up there every week to watch him play. It’s basically like my second home.”

Q: Duke entered the recruiting process for you later than the others. What do you like about them and have they extended an offer to you yet?

A: “Not officially yet, but they pretty much said they want me and want me up there for a visit after they get done. Just to be able to be coached by one of the greatest coaches ever would be a blessing. I played with Vernon, Wendell and Boogie Ellis a little bit so I think we would play pretty good together.”

Q: There’s been a decent amount of talk surrounding Memphis with you especially with your close relationship with Mike Miller. Talk about the possibility of playing with them.

A: “They are a great coaching staff and it’s a great school. I have a close relationship with Mike Miller and Penny Hardaway and James Wiseman is probably recruiting me harder than they are. When we played together in July I thought we played well together and I think it will translate to the next level.”

Q: What is the latest with you and LSU?

A: “They have a situation right now, but I enjoyed my official visit when I went there. They have some good guys and they are in the NCAA tournament right now. I feel like it’s a pretty good program.”

Q: What did newly hired Alabama head coach Nate Oats have to say when he reached out to you?

A: “He's telling me how he's watched my game and feels like I would be perfect for his style of offense. He also told me about his background."

Q: What are you going to be looking at with each school leading to your decision on April 20th?

A: “I just want a program that’s going to get me better and hopefully one where we will win a national championship. I want to come in and have an impact right away. I want to trust a coaching staff where I can come in and they will get me better.”
