🏈 TOUCHDOWN ALABAMA MAGAZINE: Ask Larry

I don't remember Saban saying that about AJ before the NC game. Wasn't that something said after the season had ended?

RTR,

Tim

It wasn't a secret that AJ had over-taken Star long before the team even made an appearance in ATL for the SECCG. I recall talking about that with the guys from Bama's Ball radio around the fourth or fifth week of the season.

In answer to your question, Tim, he did say that before the game. If I recall the day correctly, it was the Weds. presser before that game Thurs. night.

Thanks. I didn't remember that, and in retrospect I found it a bit surprising that Saban would say that ahead of a game.

Based on his history with pressers I can understand the surprise.

I can't remember which game it was...I want to say it was Arkansas where I first noticed AJ getting reps (pre-game) as GM's back-up. That's been indicative of our rotation though not purely definitive.

The more I think about that week this morning I'm leaning towards one of two conclusions. It was either Chase Goodbread who asked the question or he was the one that originally reported it for the T-town News.

A simple google search would likely answer which one...

Terry is correct and before that when I'd interview players, they'd all say that AJ, not Star was the backup if something went bad with McElroy.

One player I've talked to this year said that... "if AJ goes down in a big game don't be surprised to see Alec (Morris) as the new starter." And from what I've seen of Morris myself, he's the most like AJ out there that we have....
