Started praying yesterday when the first wave came through. I have several former students and players down there now. My heart aches for those that have been displaced or lost loved ones.
Just wanted to say I am thinking about all of y'all in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Cullman, all areas hit. My thoughts and prayers are with you, sweet home Alabama.
Praise the Lord. I just have to hope that the breakdown in infrastructure and communication is the reason behind so many missing. I pray tomorrow brings better news. Cecil Hurt tweeted that former Alabama football player Shannon Brown's daughter (a UA student) is missing. Remember them and all others in our prayers tonight.
I talked to my grandmother today and she lives in Lamar County (north-west of Tuscaloosa) and they are out of power. My mother lives in Dutton (near Chattanooga) and same thing there. They were told to expect power outages for 2 weeks. She told me that the trees in the area demolished houses left and right. One family has a tree that split their house in two. It looks like there are two structures now instead of one.
one of my friends is going to school at Bama now, his apartment is right down the street from Bryant Denny. he said it looked like a nuclear bomb hit the town.
It was crazy, it came so close to my house. Did an incredible amount of damage all over town. Allegedly Alberta City is worse than the mall area, but no one but emergency crews can even make it back there.
Everything up here in Muscle Shoals/Florence is doing fine. Just got access to the internet back a couple hours ago. Like I said, we're good here...but not far from here in Phil Campbell and Hackleburg it's simply heartbreaking. Destruction like I've never seen before in my life. Glad to here that a lot of ya'll and your loved ones are safe. My thoughts and prayers are with all those who've lost so much. This is truly a sad sad day.
btw, if anyone is interested in doing volunteer work......go to this link, look on the middle of the page. The contact information should direct you to the person in charge of volunteer work. http://www.tuscaloosa.com. Make sure you go through the proper channels to do volunteer work. It becomes extremely difficult to mobilize volunteers that have not informed the city about their intentions.
The city and citizens are going to need as much help as possible.
