🏈 Top 5 Reasons Bama Rolls the Hogs

It's going to happen; more than once.

Changing the subject, a bit...

No one has mentioned it but the fact our defense put a shut out up last week speaks volumes. VOLUMES.

We're playing backups. Not a starter on the field. And, held them for seven tries at 1st and goal.

Good point. The style defense we play, there are going to be some opening in the coverage. I'm a bit concerned right now with the pass rush. If we blitz, can we get to the QB or pressure him enough to force a bad pass? Or will it be picked up and the QB starts dissecting the secondary?

Arkansas receivers versus our defensive backs should be fun to watch.

That's the one reason I wanted seats in the end zone.

Arkie, your reference to the ESPN article left something out. How many snaps did Arky have it in the 2nd half? Play calling gave you those 7 attempts and 13 yards on the ground. Sometimes you beat yourself, insisting on doing what you think you do best. 4-5 more rushing attempts in the 2nd half and that game probably ends up 20-17 Arky.

Petrino has Ark on the road back to being really good, but I just don't see where people think they beat us Sat. We r picked by many media types to play for BCSNC, but Ark is going to beat us?? If that's the case then why isn't Ark picked to finish higher in the SEC?

because polling is subjective, especially early in the year, and are often times proven wrong on the field.

We beat LSU, Texas A&M and South Carolina last year, and finished ahead of Bama in the West, yet all four are ranked ahead of us, despite losing as many or more key players as we did.

beat TAM fairly comfortable, trounced SC at their place, out-slugged LSU.

Yet Arkansas has been ranked far behind all of them, fine.

Petrino has taken steady steps in 3 years, improving each year, and appears to have the players and experience to improve in year 4 as well, but the national media seems to be predicting he's already hit his ceiling or will take a step back now.

His pro-style offense is in place, he's deeper and more skilled than he's ever been, he has his most experienced and deepest D ever.

we'll see what happens on the field and how correct the preseason polls were.

I hate the pre-season polls, there should be zero polls until at least week three. Too many people try to base what kind of team they will have by the pre-season polls without knowing a single thing about the team except perhaps a few key players' names. As for Petrino, I have to say that I don't think he is going to take any steps back and his offense has certainly gotten better but I don't think his teams will ever have the defenses that LSU or we have. The flip side, I don't really ever see us having the throw the ball all over the place offense that Arky has.

I am quite excited about seeing how our secondary handles your receivers and if we can get any pressure on Wilson.

You may be right about us never having a defense as good as yours or LSU's, we are excited because we feel we are closer, quite a bit closer this year.

Our hope and goal is to have a D that can stuff your run game, we feel like we are ready this go round, despite Bequette's absence.

Our "throw the ball all over the place offense" is continually mis-labled by the media, Petrino runs a very pro-style offense, aiming to run/pass 50/50. We've ran it 114 times this year, passed it 110 so far.

We are a different team than last year, mobile QBs, a deeper backfield, but all our WRs back. We've got a pistol package, Brandon Mitchell in an option set. We've experimented with Joe Adams in the backfield. We have a total of 3 special teams TDs so far this year.

We hope our advantages in offense is larger than Bama's advantages in defense.

I haven't seen Arky play a down this year so I guess I'm basing my knowledge of your offense on previous teams. We will certainly have to be sharp on our pass protection and make some plays down the field to keep the run game productive. I'm still not sold that we can consistently pass the ball. If we can do that, I think we have a great chance of a win.

Yet, we lead the conference in yards per pass attempt.

Agreed.

Here's a crazy stat for you. There's only one team that has had more pass attempts against its defense than Alabama (117): Arkansas(119).

One team has less completions against their defense than Alabama (45); Vandy (44.) (UK has 45 as well.)

No team has a better percentage of completed passes against its defense than Bama: 38.5 percent.

Now lets be realistic Hawg Fans...

Dennis Johnson hasn't shown anything yet.... He still hasnt played over 6 snaps since his bowel ruptured last season... Wingo??? Cmon now... still hits that hole tentatively... at best.

I think I'm being realistic when I say we will be better off at RB this year than last.

We went into last year's game with an uncertain Wingo, an uncertain Davis and Broderick Greene (who got most the carries).

This year, we have Dennis Johnson back, a more certain Wingo, Curtis and Kody Walker, (a bigger, faster Greene)

If we can move the line, we should have the backs to pick up yards and grind clock late in the game this year.

and I beg to differ about Wingo, he has been very productive in his style, and has shown improvement after each week.

Our Backfield doesn't stack up to bamas by a long shot.

Didn't say it did, just needs to be good enough to give us balance.

If we win it will be through the air.... etc...

A win comes by playing Bobby Petrino style of football, a pro style offense, aiming to run-pass, 50/50.

we have 114 runs and 110 passes so far this year.

I believe hitting the short to mid range passes is going to open up the run game for us.

And Johnson, who has a history of just showing up as a one game wonder in big games, is 100%.
