Not CBS concern really, but it is causing issues already with the current CBA that the NFL and the players are trying to negotiate. Lots of players complaining that 90% of them don't make what one announcer does. If it hurts the NFL in negotiations, it could hurt CBS down the road when their contract with the NFL comes up again.

Why not? Arent't they making the business decision and paying the $$$? If so to me it is their concern. Is it a good business move. That is what I meant. Seems to be outpacing the market so why do that?

Those players will find anything to bitch about. He’s right Tony is making more than most players, but he’s better in his line of work than 90% of the players in the league

I have not study but what I was wandering does this align with what the market is paying or is it above or well above the market. You can be the best at something but the market drives the pay and I get it is always moving up just a matter of what the incremental tick up is. Now I will stop commenting until I have done more research. My comment was off the cuff wow that seems like a lot.

He's probably the best. But no one - or least very few people - watch a game because of who the commentator is. Jets fans are going to watch Jets game, period. If you have a huge superstar player you'll get casual and non-that team fans that tune in but nobody is going "holy shit I need to hear Tony Romo's amazing analysis, so let me spend four hours on Sunday listening to it." They jumped the shark with this. Good for him, though.

If you have a huge superstar player you'll get casual and non-that team fans that tune in but nobody is going "holy shit I need to hear Tony Romo's amazing analysis, so let me spend four hours on Sunday listening to it." They jumped the shark with this. Good for him, though.

It's a part of it in my mind though. I can't stand Beth Mowens, even hard watching her call an Alabama 12 o'clocker. And I have watched many a games only because I like a broadcaster.

Maybe not but put into combination with some of their other recent decisions it will certainly be something that is very harmful to their bottom line. I mean they cut off negotiations for the live events that draw them their biggest ratings and advertising revenue because "it was too expensive" and then turn right around and spend $100 million on a commentator that will not bring them anything close to a return on that investment. It being their jumping the shark moment may be hyperbole but it's damn sure a head-scratcher.

Yeah he's one of the very best and if that's what the market will bear so be it.. I remember his first season, Nance would ask him "what do you call here if you're the coach?" Tony would make a call and add to it, if that works then do this next, if it doesn't work try this. " He was really interesting to listen to because of his insight into the game. And if I have a choice of games to watch and not a particular fan of a team playing, I'll choose the announcer I like to listen to and watch that game almost every time.

I've never met either one but a friend of mine has met him and Troy Aikman at a function for the Cowboys a few years ago. . He said Romo was a nice, friendly guy and Aikman an asshole.

No nobody gets a hard on for the analyst, but get the wrong one and people don’t stop bitching about it i.e Alabama fans and Verne and Gary

If your competition is swimming the waters to sign your best talent you’ve got to do what you can to keep that from happening. Smart move by them

He doesn't distract from game. Provides insight. Doesnt act like lkke he is the only reason people watch. Doesn't kneel for the National anthem. All things good for the NFL. Unlike so many @&@$& players
