🏀 Tony Bennett is retiring, effective immediately.

Hope he's ok
I know one guy associated with UVA. He says it's not health related, it's due to the game today, issues revolving around UVA being able to compete in today's game, and the things we've talked about changing for head coaches.

He said he wants to stick around either UVA or at least college athletics to help "navigate" schools through this transition.

20 days before season started. I think that's kinda messed up though.
My "gut" tells me the timing is "political," for lack of a better word.

Hrm...

IE: Just like the election with Harris ... Bennett leaves there in forcing UVA to hire one of his assistants to coach the team this season.

I can't escape the notion it was timed so he could put one of "his guy's" in place.

That's what I was thinking when i heard the news yesterday. I was like with 20 days left before the season, they have to put one of his guys in the place. If he waited until after the season, none of his guys would get the job. Dirty business but it is what it is.

3 weeks until the season starts pretty much means they will have to go with an assistant coach. IMO, I think these older guys are just getting tired of NIL and the open transfer. It has to be physically and mentally draining.
In the past, a coach recruited a kid once for a four-year scholarship. Now, you have to recruit them not only every year to stay but throughout the year so they don't quit and go into the transfer portal.
