IMO, this hiring cycle has had a higher percentage of good hires than any time in recent memory. I think this is a good spot for Herman... low expectations and talent a rich state.

I'm with @Brandon Van de Graaff, but am reminded of what the LSU fan told the Alabama fan when we hired Saban back in 2007.

LSU fan: " you know he is a SOB, right?"
Bama fan: "Yeah, but he is our SOB!!"

I think he is a pretty good coach. I would not have been upset for Saban to have rehabbed him either. I do remember Saban flying him to Bama to break down film after OSU beat us in the first play off.

Credit to him though, he schemed our ass up when he was at Ohio State. They knew they couldn't run straight at us, and this was before we had linebackers that were 225-230 that could run sideline to sideline. He'd run these outside zone plays and have a receiver crack block out linebackers, and our safetys we're supposed crack replace, they didn't, and you saw what happened.
