🏈 tip of the hat to Danielson

I can't get past their horrible announcing. They slaughter players names, they say the wrong teams names when talking about the other, just too many mistakes. If I screwed up in my job as often as they do I'd have no job. I watch tons of college and pro football and I never hear the kind of errors they make. They suck. Could I do it, no. But I know there are much better out there.

I have a distaste for Verne and Gary, but I can normally stomach it. I'd have a hard time ever muting the game, especially for a bad commentator. You lose a feel for the atmosphere of the game. At a bar you don't need it all that much, because usually the bar serves as its own atmosphere. Regardless, Verne and Gary haven't been all that bad this year, and they've NEVER pulled against Alabama. Gary just says things that make me say "seriously?", and Verne I just feel sorry for. I sometimes wonder if he realizes where he's at 75% of the time.

All that I can live with, but what really irks me is the amount of commercials CBS shoves down our throats. Every punt, every kickoff, every single timeout there's a commercial. Sometimes its commercial break, 1 play, commercial break. It kills me especially in games like Saturday night. I understand they pay a premium price for the rights to air SEC games, and when confronted with it Danielson says "take it up with the SEC for asking that much for the contract." I take exception to that. If CBS can't pay that much money and still put a decent product on the television then they should be the ones reconsidering whether or not they can afford to carry the games, and right now CBS' product, in my opinion, is VERY sub-par.

The copious commercials do get annoying. I think networks need to tape delay the game beginning at the first commercial break. Fans paying hundreds of dollars to attend the game should not be forced to sit and wait on television timeouts.

Danielson is the best color man on TV in my opinion. It's between him and Blackledge. Verne was very good in his day, but he has fell off over the past few years. At one time, I'd say Verne was almost as good as Keith Jackson. Almost, but not quite.

The day one of the announcers has something to do with the scoreboard, the play clock, the game clock, a penalty on the field, etc.

Then, I MIGHT start giving a damn.

I agree, and I like Gary a lot, but for the sake of playing devil's advocate here, one could argue that while they have no bearing on the penalties, they have a lot to do with how they're perceived. For instance, fairly benign example, but Sat night when he said a false start on LSU was a bad call while he was looking at the wrong guy and then came back later on to correct himself, but the damage had been done for the hoards of LSU idiots who'd already added that bit of ammo to their arsenal and were busy whining about the refs trying to screw them and blah blah. I also credit him personally with why I still get to hear Vol fans claim to this day, anytime 2009 is mentioned, that our championship dreams should've ended after Cody blocked the game winning field goal and ripped his helmet off before the end of the play without getting flagged for it. I'm not even sure we would've heard KIFFIN say anything about it if he hadn't gotten that stirred up

Again with the fast food, frozen food out of a box restaurants. :lance:

Quite frankly, considering all their bars are located in the middle of the restaurant, it'll be too hard to watch anything outside over the tables.

Pick a Hooters. The food still sucks, but most have an outdoor eating area.

After reading that, all I could think about was this

Who was the color commentator for the 02 N.C game for Miami vs OSU.. I liked that guy...Still wishing for Gus Johnson to call an Alabama game

I just don't like Gary's voice, he's a good at what he does and the resources and info he gives, but just don't like him...Really all opinionated.. Maybe we have a bad perception of things

Keith Jackson was the play-by-play man and greatest of all time imo, Tim Brant was color commentator. If Gus Johnson called a Bama game I would pee myself... I keep tweeting the dude asking him how much he would charge to just follow me around for a day and commentate on my daily life. He would make a hangnail sound epic.

You're not playing devil's advocate here, you're offering a salient point.

If you've listened to any rival fans talk about the game you've heard them cry about prevent defense (Brando's line,) playing off the line of scrimmage, not playing the same defensive scheme, etc.

But, if you go back and look at the last drive you'll see there were four different defensive calls on the last drive. Danielson made a point of their corners playing back and that was true on two plays. The first one where we had a seven yard completion that ended in a first down. And then again they played off the line on the blitz. But, you'll also see bump and run coverage and man defense on the plays as well.

I don't expect people to look back at a game and see if what was said at the time was true or whether it was an off the cuff statement. I also don't pay attention to a comment made during live action about what an announcer is seeing at the time.

Think about this for a second. You have two guys in the booth. One is calling the live action (IE: Verne in this case) and another is watching for the breakdown of the play (Danielson.) Gary gets it right the majority of the time off the cuff. But, I've yet to see him miss one when he's had a chance to review the play.

I mention that to say this. There's a reason we have GA's in the booth. There's a reason there are nine coaches on the field. There's a reason there are more than one official in a game. Two guys, both with different responsibilities, can't get it right 100% of the time. Yet, people expect them to because they are calling the game? Hell, with as many coaches as a team has observing action they still don't get it right at first glance.
