🏈 Tidesports: RAPID REACTION: Quick thoughts from Alabama's win over Florida

Some quick thoughts on Alabama's win:

-Blake Sims' performance speaks for itself. He tied the school record with 457 total yards on Saturday and even missed some time in the second half with a bruised shoulder. He was 23-33 with 445 passing yards (2nd in a game all time) and 4 touchdowns with one interception. I'll be writing a story on his day tonight, but it wasn't just the numbers. He made big-time throws in big time situations. He passed the stats test, the leadership test and the eye test.

-Same thing - what can you say about Amari Cooper? He's the best receiver in the nation and he should be in everyone's (too early) Heisman conversation. 10 catches, 201 yards, 3 touchdowns in a big SEC game and a lot of those yards came against one of the best corners in the nation. It's not a question of whether Coop will break the single season records this year - he absolutely will barring injury - but we're probably talking about one of the best seasons by an Alabama skill player ever. Incredible play, incredible numbers.

-Nick Saban said he only saw one mistake from the front seven - the designed QB draw for the touchdown. He was really pleased with the defensive effort as a whole. UF was held to 200 yards on 55 plays, and all three touchdowns came from turnovers handed to the Gators at the UA 31, UA 16 and a fumble return for a score. UF never sustained a real drive on Alabama all day.

-Jeff Driskel isn't the answer for Florida. Not sure Muschamp is either, but it's hard to imagine Driskel being a guy that can take UF anywhere this year.

- HEY OJ Howard caught a pass. Two actually.

-The offensive line has to work through some issues, especially in the run game. They improved in the second half - a fact probably supported by a worn down UF defensive front - but expect a lot of emphasis on the run blocking during the bye.

-Hows this Lane Kiffin thing working out you think? (645 yards of offense in an SEC game). Anyone have this team dropping 49 on Florida this week? (I guessed 27).

- The first sign of the kicker/punter being mortals. Griffith missed a field goal and JK Scott had one bad punt. They'll be fine moving forward of course, but they had been nothing but perfect so far.

-This was the best performance by Derrick Henry since the Sugar Bowl.

-A small victory, but Coker coming in a game in a big spot and getting a TD pass can only be good for Alabama and Coker's confidence. I said on our Podcast earlier this week that with a small, running QB an injury is always in play and we saw that today.

- Did I mention Amari Cooper and Blake Sims? Wow.

We cannot give up 21 points to a good team and expect to win.

I see the APB on Howard was successful, he was found but have they located Volger yet?

Sims didn't look bad considering he can't throw deep.

Mike I see where you come from, Howard has been found. Volger had a TD catch last game so he been found also. Sims to me look great in throwing the ball. Yes I think a fews time he didn't use his head. But he did a good job in leading the team in this victory. He had over 400 yards passing in the game so he is doing something right. But, it could be that LK is on the sideline and not in the booth.

I saw one play where Howard was all alone on one play and Sims just looked right past him and went to the other side of the field. Howard will score if we get him the ball more, but what can you say when you have Amari Cooper going for two hundred yards and three touchdowns.

Offensive line looked horrible in the first half, but their endurance and strength kicked in and showed exactly what it is we do, wear teams down and beat them up in the second half.

I'm proud of all of our guys. Wish we could secure the ball a little better. Want to continue to see Drake in more. Even on his fumble he was running for like ten yards. He will win us games, mark my word, if we let him get the ball. Proud we played a good game and can't wait to take on Ole Siss in a couple of weeks. Roll Tide.

Our team played great even with the 21 points we scored for Florida. As an overall thought we played another cupcake. Nothing good comes out of playing cupcake teams. It lowers our bar of excellence. It makes us look better than we are. We can take these wins and move on to tougher opponents. If we give aTm 21 points we will not recover. Miss State either. The rest of the season starts in two weeks. RollllTide! for the wins, but we need to keep rolling with solid playing.
