When you’re a freshman football player at the University of Alabama, getting called in for a one-on-one with the head coach can be scary.

ā€œMy heart was driving,ā€ Sylve said in New Orleans a few days before the Crimson Tide’s Bowl Championship Series national title victory over LSU. ā€œI hoped I didn’t mess up or something.

ā€œIt turned out to be a good thing.ā€

The 5-foot-11 rookie from Port Sulpher, La., got the call in Week 5 of the regular season, when Alabama was preparing to play at Florida. Saban wanted Sylve, a speedy prospect who had been working at wideout, to consider a move to the defensive backfield.
