I know it's extremely early to be thinking of it, but what do you expect to see next year at QB? Will McElroy get the nod, or will Star and AJ battle it out? It's early, I haven't had my coffee, and ADD is kicking in heavily. :D

From what I've read here and elsewhere, Jackson seems like the heir-apparent. He's said to have a high caliber arm as well as wheels. If he can "do the bookwork" my guess would be that he would be the man. But what do I know? I'm a truck driver.

I would think the odds are better on McElroy starting next year, but I believe that Star Jackson will have the opportunity to earn a starting role as well, as he will be more accustomed to the offense.

AJ i imagine will redshirt his first year like Star has done. Id rather we not have a true freshman QB, and I also have read he needs some time to bulk up for SEC play.

I think McElroy is the likely starter next year. Didn't they play Darrah over Jackson yesterday? If so, it looks like they are looking to keep his redshirt, so McElroy's still ahead at this point.

Barring injuries and bruised egos, I see 2008 as McElroy 1, Jackson 2, AJ redshirt, and then 2010 with AJ and Jackson in competition for 1. Darrah and Smelley could factor in as threes to preserve a redshirt for AJ next year.

Sup BC?

Good question and it definitely is something worth a thought.

Right now it appears that McElroy is the front-runner for the job, but Darrah, Star, and even A.J. will all battle and push Greg hard.

McElroy has looked pretty good in his season debuts, albeit against lesser competition. His YPP is already better than JPW's, so he may be more of the down-the-field passer we have been wanting to utilize all the talent we have at receiver and TE.

Saban just covered this very topic @ about 13:10 mark in post-game press conf.

As many of us knew Darrah isn't eligible for a redshirt while Star is. Barring injuries and other circumstances looks like Star is headed for the shirt.

Wow. I must be psychic or something Haha. I'll need to check that out. Also, thanks for the responses, it's something that's been on my mind lately and you guys have given some great insight.

Come practice next spring, it will be Mac's job to lose. He will be the one getting the extra reps for the rest of this season.

Mcelroy does not have the arm to start cannot even beat out JPW.

Darrah could start given a chance but it will be Star Jackson

I don't know why anyone thought he would be able to. There was never a question about who gives us the best chance to win.

Tim,

I seriously doubt Brad ever sees a snap at QB. To me, that was a fan being hyped up on Brad in HS and basing his future position/contributions more on his displeasure with our offense last year than the role Brad will play in our offense in the future.

Don't misunderstand this...I do see Brad getting a lot of playing time next year in the rotation with Colin, Chris and Preston.

You like our TE's production this year? Chit, wait 'til next year!!!

I say McElroy is the starter in the Spring and will be his to lose in the Fall. I think that Star could be used along the lines of Tebow a couple years back minus the runs up the gut or even the Pryor kid at Ohio State. I think that the McCarron kid will possibly be redshirted to 1) get the system entrenched in his head good and 2) get about 15-20 pounds on him. The position will be in good hands no matter what. So get behind JP this year and we'll be fine. RTR

Star is mobile, but I don't see him fitting the Tebow or Pryor role in our offense.

Jemarcus was more of a running threat early on at LSU than Star is now, and it was '04 when he put significant numbers on the board rushing. Even then, he was right at 250 for the season.

I see Greg having the job/his to lose but Star getting reps. In fact, it wouldn't be a stretch to say we'll see the same lineup in '10, Greg's senior year.
