🏈 This whole reprimanding bit

(warning: this is long) This whole thing just disgusts me. I'm really bothered by it all. I was bothered by it yesterday and even more so today.

First, what gives these coaches the right to act this way? What happened to any sort of gentleman's code between coaches? What happened to handling things in a professional manner? From day one Lane Kiffin has displayed that he has no respect for any authority in the conference. What kind of lesson is this teaching the young men he's guiding? I know I sound old school, and I'm sure part of that is true. But, since when can you scream and complain when you don't get your way as a leader? Since when can you disrespect and mock your authority and not have to pay any consequences?

That brings me to being even more bothered. Mike Slive took Kiffin's various remarks and basically said "don't do it again". That's like a two-year-old kid calling his mother names while pitching a fit, and her saying "oh, you better not do that again". Nothing behind it but ideal threats. Almost like sending him to time out. Please! You've got to be kidding me.

Kiffin has been making these type comments since he stepped in the door, and no one has done squat about it. He needs a huge spanking. I can't believe his father allows this type crap. Only thing that tells me is he's one of those wimpy dads off the field that are afraid to discipline much less upset their child. I don't know diddly about Monte Kiffin, but I've no respect for the man simply because of his son's behavior (fair or unfair to him I don't know).

Is this what our society is coming to? You know, I don't even want any of UT's recruits. If this is what they're attracted to and are interested in have at it. I don't want any part of that.

The second part of this whole thing is the attention that Kiffin is getting today. I didn't listen to more than a few minutes on 680 in ATL today, but the time I did listen they were talking about Kiffin and his complaints about the refs and the conspiracy thing. They were actually treating it with some notion of possibility.

I didn't have time to call, but they never addressed the type penalties called vs. UT and the headset issue affecting Alabama just as much if not more. They never said his D coaches were all on the field while ours were up in the booth. All they said about that was Kiffin not being able to get his Defensive plays called properly. What? Were we like running around all excited gaining yard after yard in route to a TD while all this was happening? Heck no, we had no communication with our coordinator and quickly went down 3 and out. Ohhhhhh, that was such a conspiracy on our part. Yet, they don't even touch that! They just kept giving Kiffin's side of things making it sound like the headset issue was a game breaker.

I don't know why all of this is bothering me so. I think it's because I'm so against rewarding bad behavior, and this is exactly what is being done over and over for Lane. He needs to shut it and shut it quick. Only problem is nothing will be done if he doesn't.

Sandra,

You know the deal and you are so right about many things in this post. You could get into this whole societal issue and spend all day talking about that so I'll just comment on the way Slive handled this situation.

From my understanding, Slive gave Kiffen a "last warning" type letter or call or whatever. I am sure some of what was communicated by Slive to Kiffen was redacted for public consumption but from what I understand, if Kiffen screws up again, he can be suspended by the league. I cannot remember that ever happening and would love for Lane to be the first.

I am glad we have a coach with character and integrity but most of all, maturity.

Excellent post Sandra, and I think you are spot on!

I think Slive's 'cryptically worded' reprimand will be tested sooner rather than later by Kiffin. He seem to be an immature child, and will not keep his mouth in check.

I hope he will shut up for the good of the league, but if he does not, then I hope Slive walks the talk and suspends him.

Well I heard him in an interview today, and even when he keeps his mouth shut he still throws silent jabs. He was being asked about the upcoming South Carolina game. He went on to talk about Crompton and his success. Then he went on to say he has more TD passes than Tim Tebow. Huh? What does Tebow have to do with anything? I guess he forgot for a moment that Tebow plays for Florida and that game is done and gone.

It's like he just can't resist. The announcers were having a field day slamming him, so that part was worth it all.

Lane is a fool. I couldn't be happier he's embarassing Tennessee. They deserve each other.

That's the thing, I don't think the majority of UT fans are too ashamed of him now that their program looks to be heading in what some would say the right direction. I'm sure there's a few that are embarrassed at how big of a cry baby he's being.

I will agree, Lane is a fool. He's making such an ass of himself it's almost sad to watch.

I Slive had any guts he would slap a suspension on Orgeron for being Kiffen's surrogate and continuing to spew more conspiracy nonsense, inspite of the warning about this to Kiffen.

Well said, Bama Delta. The whole thing bothers me, too. Not much we can do about it, except sit back and watch Kiffin's World implode one of these days. You reap what you sow. The sooner the better...
