šŸˆ "This Notre Dame team has to pay for our sins in 2012. People are going to hold what happened six years ago against these guys, which is asinine."

Georgia vs Clemson would have been so much better.

How does this happen? Georgia moves over Oklahoma after losing 2 games to sneak into the playoffs? Clemson moves up to #1 after beating a 7-5 Pitt thus jumping Alabama?

1 - Alabama
2 - Clemson
3 - ??
4 - Oklahoma

While some of you think that Georgia was more deserving, remember that they lost 2 games. You cannot reward Georgia for losing the SECCG with a rematch with Alabama in the semifinals nor can you reward them with moving them up to #3 over Oklahoma.

This is not logical.

They lost one regular season game and a second post season game. Not exactly fair when you consider one of the four Playoff teams didn't have to play that type of game. If Georgia doesn't play the best team in the country they are #3 and Notre Dame is #4. I'd be willing to put $1,000 on that, BUT, that's not how it works. The ideal is the best four teams, not deserving. Georgia is a Top 4 team, there's no doubt about that. They just had the unfortunate situation of playing the best team in the country. Oklahoma got a three loss Texas team and Clemson got a five loss Pitt team, while Notre Dame was sitting at home laughing the whole time.

Ifs and buts were candy and nuts... We cannot sit here and play the if game, because it didn't happen that way.

That regular season loss was by 20 points to an over ranked LSU team. Could be argued they played their best game of the season against Alabama, shouldn't that be weighted accordingly? That's why there is still noise about Georgia today, because they played Alabama close. They lost by 3 TD's to LSU and that is getting overlooked.

So now take away the IF and explain to me how you put Georgia into the top 4 and not devalue Alabama's win over Georgia in the SECCG.

Pretty damn simple, they shouldn't be punished for giving the game away to the best team in the country in an extra game that Notre Dame could not be punished for. Oklahoma was getting drilled by Texas until a late run made it closer, but nonetheless, still a loss, but was much uglier. And an over ranked LSU team? They beat more higher ranked teams than we did if I recall. Also, that's your opinion on them being overrated, but they exceeded expectations this year which is for some reason hard for most Alabama fans to admit. And you asked how it could have been done, not Ifs and Buts... yet your comment was asking for nothing but ifs and buts. Georgia is a Top 4 team. And ignoring the last matchup to "give the fans what they want", Georgia should have been let in if they were letting Top 4 in. If you're not going to take into consideration Notre Dame's schedule, then you're saying Central Florida should have made it in over Oklahoma because they didn't lose to anyone and Oklahoma lost to a three loss Texas team.

Ok, then where do you rank Georgia in the top 4 considering they lost to LSU and Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson, and Alabama were undefeated?

What does your top 4 look like?

I'm not certain why you think I had ifs and buts in my original post...

Why would this not work...

1. Alabama
2. Clemson
3. Georgia
4. Notre Dame or Oklahoma - Take your pick

Sure, it would not be 100% understandable to move Georgia to #3 after losing to Alabama, but for the sake of getting all of the best teams in without having an immediate rematch, there should be zero wrong there. Either way they are playing #1 or #2 and seeding is out after that because no #1 has ever won it. Georgia is a Top 4 team and they have shown they belong. Oklahoma lost to us by more than Georgia and Notre Dame lost to Clemson by 27. Georgia has proven they wouldn't lose to us by 11, and I think we can all agree they wouldn't get beat by almost four touchdowns by Clemson.

And ifs and buts were the whole premise of you asking for a scenario.

Yeah, I don't understand how Georgia moves up from #4 to #3 after losing to Alabama in the SECCG. Doesn't pass the logic test.

Why wouldn't you keep Georgia at #4 if you think they are a top 4 team?

As far as Georgia playing us closer, Tua was injured early in the game and I would imagine Georgia was looking for revenge from Tua's 2nd half performance in the previous CFP Championship game. Don't think how close them game is really matters in this situation. Tua's stats alone indicate the major difference of the games.

I have absolutely zero issue with that, but that was only for those griping about a rematch and making it work. Shouldn't matter if we really want the four best, but of course every scenario has politics and such involved, but ultimately it was about money. BUT, Georgia travels as well as Notre Dame.

And Tua getting hurt is part of the game. He threw interceptions before he was out for the game and really injured. And if how close the game was doesn't matter, then why does the game itself even matter if the specifics of the game don't mattet? Then why does the Playoff committee even watch the games instead of just taking the results into consideration?

About the money? I think the committee realized that you can't put a 2 loss team into the playoff given the other teams records and it would devalue Alabama's SECCG win over Georgia if you put Georgia at #4. The committee got it right by not putting Georgia in given the other teams, their schedules, and Georgia's two losses.

Tua was hurt very early in the game, first drive.

From the FAQ site on the CFP site on how they get the four best teams.

How are the teams that go to the playoff determined?
The four teams that go to the College Football Playoff are determined by the College Football Playoff Selection Committee. The selection committee chooses the four teams for the playoff based on strength of schedule, head-to-head results against common opponents, championships won and other factors. For more information on the selection committee, as well as individual bios, click here.

OSU doesn't belong in the playoffs because they lost to a 6-6, Power 5 team.
Notre Dame doesn't belong in the playoffs because they lost in the playoffs after beating every Power 5 team they played this season.
Clemson isn't criticized for an undefeated schedule in the ACC and have earned a playoff spot.
Notre Dame didn't, after playing five ACC teams, two B1G teams, a SEC team and a PAC 12 team. They beat everyone, mind you, but it's not a resume that has earned its place? All the while Central Florida doesn't belong, in spite of being undefeated, because their wins weren't' against Power 5 teams.

We're left with Murray should have won the Heisman because he kept OU within 11 points of Bama. And, we're left with UGA should have been in the playoffs because they played Bama tightly.

None of these arguments, when put together, make sense.

I don't know how you don't have lopsided scores in a playoff. We had those with the BCS. Maybe all the squawking is just a sign of how much these games mean. Plus, Bowl games don't seem to be filling in the gaps.

Well Alabama didn't win the SEC last year, so the championship arguement is BS. They simply knew we were the best team and chances of us getting beat again were slim and none. We lost to a much less talented Auburn team, it happens. You could apply the same to Georgia this year. It's funny, because we most likely make it in even losing to Georgia, a team that lost to an "overrated LSU" team. More proof the conference championship means not much.
