Due to where the game falls on the schedule it seems like Bama and AU are at a bit of a disadvantage in my hypothetical here.

In the form of a question:

Which long time rivalry game do you think will be the first to have a rematch in the playoffs?

The way the Red River Rivalry sets itself up, if both programs were playing great ball, I'd say that game has the best odds. After all, it's played in the middle of the season.

In the SEC, I'd give UF and UGA a better chance than Bama and AU—again, when the game is played.

I'll buy in that we could face Auburn as the first big time rivalry to meet in the playoffs. Look at how it all shaped out this year and you can easily see it happening again. All it would have taken was Duke beating Florida State and we very possibly could have been in the Championship game, after Ohio State got beat and Missouri lost to Auburn. Auburn is tough and we're going to be the most talented team in the country. Each team heading in undefeated or one team with a loss still offers the best scenario. Georgia and Florida are a few years away, Tennessee as well. Michigan has a ways to go, as does Texas. Now USC and UCLA or Stanford and Oregon could be the ones to watch. With the SEC cannibalizing off itself, the Big Ten just being down as well as the Big 12, the PAC-12 could see the first repeat. The ACC doesn't offer many contenders other than Clemson-Florida State, and we all know Clemson usually performs below expectations.

The College Football Playoff will be about conference champions and ND. Get used to it. The primary purpose of the committee will be to select, and seed, four of the conference champions, or three and ND, from the five major conferences and ND.

This tells you all you need to know about the CFP. There is a reason that "Conference championships won" is listed first. BIG reason. May as well be the only thing listed.
