Juwan Gary will play his college basketball career in the Southeastern Conference but it won’t be with South Carolina Gamecocks.

Gary committed to play for Alabama on Friday. The Gray Collegiate forward picked the Crimson Tide over in-state schools South Carolina and Clemson, Virginia Tech and North Carolina State.

Gary is the second Alabama commit for the Class of 2019, joining Diante Smith. He visited Alabama back in June and came away impressed.

Roll Tide.......can he hit free throws?
Hopefully not if we want to see them win.
I would love for Bama to have a team that made their way into the NCAA each year. Maybe go two rounds every now and then. A ole fella can wish.
It's not something I'd call a wish--more of an expectation. Bama should dance each season.

I was making a bit of a joke about them missing free-throws and winning--but it really wasn't that much of a joke. The five worst games shooting FT's last season--Bama was 5-0. The best FT shooting games--Bama won two of five (A&M and LSU.)

I haven't seen anything on the Bama sites about his verbal as of yet.

Sorry about that:;)

Nick Saban isn’t the only ones reeling in prized recruits to Tuscaloosa, Ala. A week after landing the first member of Alabama’s 2019 class, head basketball coach Avery Johnson landed another key target as four-star forward

Juwan Gary

committed to the Crimson Tide, according to a report from The State.
"Their style of play fits me very well,ā€ Gary told the South Carolina newspaper. ā€œTheir style of play is fast, they get out and run in transition, but at the same time they have to play defense. But coach Avery Johnson he likes to go out in more transition plays, got out there and get the ball, rebound and push it.ā€

Gary, 6-foot-5, 200 pounds, is the No. 70 rated player in the 2019 class. He was named South Carolina’s Class 2A Player of the Year last season after averaging 20.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.9 steals while leading Gray Collegiate Academy to its first 2A state title. Gary chose Alabama over finalists South Carolina, Clemson, N.C. State and Virginia Tech.

ā€œAbove anything else, Juwan Gary adds an element of toughness,ā€ said Rivals national basketball analyst Eric Bossi. ā€œHe’s a team guy all the way who does whatever is needed. He’s athletic, he’s physical, he gets on the glass, he defends and he’s a dangerous transition finisher.ā€

Gary is the second member of Alabama’s 2019 class, joining fellow four-star forward

Diante Smith, who committed to the Crimson Tide on July 4. Alabama signed three players in the 2018 class, including four-star guard
Jared Butler
, three-star guard
Diante Wood
and three-star center
Javian Fleming.

Juwan Gary, a 6’6 200 lb combo forward from Columbia, SC has committed to Alabama. Gary is a top 100 player in the country and one of the top players in the state of South Carolina. Experts have long thought he would stay in the state of South Carolina, but Coach Avery Johnson was persistent in his effort for Gary. It came down to Alabama and South Carolina ultimately.

Gary is a versatile player who can shoot very efficiently and lock someone down defensively. His coach recently said on a radio interview that his strength was his outside shooting, which for his career has hovered around 40%. He has a nice jump shot that helps him shoot effectively inside and outside. One thing Gary will need to work on is his drives and finishes at the basket. He can get out of control and cause a turnover a lot of times.

I envision Gary being used as a SG and a SF in college. He’s big enough to be a large SG and an average SF in terms of size. He has very good ball handling skills and good basketball IQ. He has the exact physique that Coach Avery looks for in a player, being long and athletic so he can play multiple positions.

This is Alabama’s second 2019 commitment to go along with top 150 player Diante Smith as well. I envision Alabama will take two more players depending on who goes pro/transfers after this season. Kira Lewis Jr., Trendon Watford, Austin Crowley are three guys to pay attention to to fill those spots.

Buckle Up!
