🏈 The saga of Riley Cole ... (pruned from NSD thread.)

A few years back there was a WR from the Gadsden area, can't remember his name. We offered him, with the understanding up front that he might end up as a gray shirt. As signing day neared, he ended up with an offer from Kentucky which did not have the gray shirt stipulation, and he took that offer. Seems tome that is the way it should work.

I remember a couple of situations where we offered gray shirts because the player suffered a serious knee injury in his senior year of HS. That was Bozeman's situation, but as it turned out his rehab went faster than expected, and a scholarship opened up so that he did not have to wait to enroll.

The classic gray shirt that worked out well for us and the player was John Parker Wilson.

Nothing is wrong with the practice as long as the school is up front about the possibility to the player.

And, he still has a slot on the team. I'm not certain when he could sign his NLI though.
I thought about that a little a week or so ago but in a different circumstance. In that case, I was wondering if Emmons would have something official to sign considering he still needs a few points on his ACT.

I do think it's important to note any kid grey shirting can sign a financial aid agreement with the school. It's not the same, but still binding in some regard.

Its the same exact **** almost every other year and you hard heads refuse to admit that Bama can do anything wrong. They did this kid dirty and have done it in the past... You can look at this kids quote's from start to finish and see that he was completely blindsided by the grey shirt sprung on him 5 days before signing day.

A "miscommunication" is a politicians way of saying the Alabama football staff conveniently left out the truth throughout the process... Or just didn't have a better option until now. It's not that hard to tell a kid he doesn't have a spot... Up until 5 days ago he thought he did. What's so hard about comprehending that?
You're making A LOT of HUGE assumptions here. Fact is, he still may have had a slot. You don't know that one way or another.

I see a lot of assumptions on your part. It's almost as if you had you mind made up before even finding out the details on the story. It's evidenced in this thread when it was shared there was a communication breakdown, you called that bull shit, and then the father comes out and says it was a communication breakdown.

I'm confident saying I've probably been around and through the recruiting process more than everyone on here combined. In the last 5 years I've had 40+ dudes sign letters of intent at some level or another, including over a dozen division 1 players. I was also a college athlete myself. I'm very familiar and comfortable with how the process works and deal with college coaches weekly. (Trust me I'm not bragging, it's somewhat pathetic I've actually been at this particular gig 5+ years lol)
Please expound on this ... how so?

Everyone has their opinion on the matter, but I feel with as much staff as we have, there should never be any kind of miscommunication with a recruit. Lay it out from the beginning. These coaches know their plan and intentions. Pretty pathetic seeing the blind loyalist to all things Bama and how they are never wrong. No, they haven't snatched his scholarship, but a communication breakdown at this point is not acceptable. Willing to bet Ben Davis was never miscommunicated with.

This is the simple truth.

You don't see the problem with that statement after he's already been committed for like 8 months and completely shut down his recruiting process? Geez

"Look Riley, we know you've been committed to us for 8 months, but you've still got 5 days to find another school and WE MAY HAVE A SLOT..." lol

Judgmental fits you to a "t."

How is it being judgemental when someone posted those feelings and I called it pathetic at how they always seem to bend towards whatever Alabama says? They must also think Alabama is squeaky clean as well. Hey, whatever floats your boat though. Next time try dropping some logical information instead of a comment that is attempting to just rib somebody.

Isn't there someone on here that knows the facts? If Jeremy Pruit was bonding with the kid, then he should be the one to explain.

I know 1 fact for sure... Jeremy Pruit has absolutely nothing to do with this kids initial evaluation, offer, or acceptance of commitment. He may have been sent to do the "dirty work" of telling the kid his spot is no longer guaranteed, but ultimately it's Saban who crunches the #'s.

You two guys need to get along. Your names are so similar I get you mixed up sometimes.

Brothers. Whatcha gonna do?

Who do you think is filming that?

Sounds like an older brother who is semi-concerned for them....No hitting in the face and take it to the grass.

I guess that makes you the older brother in this scenario. The rest of us are the other kid just trying to move the goal back in place, so we can get back to shooting hoops.

The only reason my title says admin is so I can work on how the site works. At least, that's the idea...gotta have usergroups.

Did my thing at UA in creative writing ... love your turn of phrase.
