I can relate to this 100%. Living in East Tennessee (grew up in Maryville/live in Gatlinburg now) for most of my life (55), I can attest that they are the most delusional and obnoxious fan base in college football. My hatred for them will not ever go away. No one rubs a victory in your face like the Viles. Thank goodness they haven't won in awhile. I am always more relieved after Alabama beats them because I can relax for another year. My hatred accelerated for them in the 90's because of 3 people: Fulmer, Dickey, and Kramer. I actually lived across the road from the king snitch himself- the great pumpkin: Phil Fulmer. He and his wife were extremely arrogant and had a sense of entitlement like no other. Finally, my brother in law (big vile fan) got me a book for Christmas on Alabama Football and wrote, "I hope you enjoy this book on Alabama Football history since Alabama fans like to live in the past." Typical jab I received from them all the time. Little did he know that 2 weeks later, Alabama would hire Nick Saban and he talks more about the past now than I do.
