🏈 The perfect Storm for Texas?

Does anyone else get the feeling that all the hype about Alabama creates the perfect storm for Texas?

Although I love all the media attention our program has gotten this season, its almost to much.

I mean we have had a ton of individual awards, the most all americans, and it seems like ESPN makes a new article about Bama everyday.

Hopefully Saban is drilling it in our guys heads daily about how good Texas is, and that it will be the toughest game of the year.

I agree, I think Bama's domination of UF and Texas struggling with Nebraska has caused people to undersell the Horns and overhype the Tide.

For what it's worth, the Vegas line went up initially, but has come back down since then, so hopefully people will go back to extolling the virtues of Mack Brown, Colt McCoy, Jordan Shipley, Sergio Kindle, and Earl Thomas.

I admit it's nice, but I would like the media to focus on Texas a little as well! I'd hate to think our guys are letting this get to their heads in a bad way, but...

Mack Brown has got probably a tougher job than you guys may think. He has got to keep them focused on their assignments and not our accomplishments. Often, a team can get so "jacked up and hyped" for a game due to the comments from media, they lose their focus and their edge and commit stupid penalties, blow assignments, eventually losing the game that they had a great shot in winning. To me, Brown has the tougher assignment than what CNS has.

Well, just as an FYI, the two teams that previously held the record for All-Americans in a season (5 - OU in 1987(?) and 2003) neither won the MNC. Also, take a look at the Heisman winners from 1998 - 2008. Only two Heisman winners came from the national championship team.

Now, I know that as CNS says, the past has no affect on the upcoming game, but the odds are certainly not in our favor. I hope (and actually believe) that CNS will find a way to get these guys more motivated to win than Texas will be, because they are going to be ready.

By game time, he will have the team convinced that this the Utah game all over. We have the perfect F5 coming to this game.

After the Forida game, I think CNS can make the boys run through walls! This is our year and we won't be denied.

planomateo expresses it very well. Do we have guys who are satisfied with winning the SEC and some nifty individual honors, or is there still that burning desire for the big prize. If we want that badly enough we will get ourselves mentally and physically ready to play Texas.

I'm sure there's still an entire team wanting to bring home that 13th NC. There's no doubt in my mind, they all want it from Saban down to the guy who shines the helmets!

We have 4 big things on our side:

1. Texascan't learn to be physical in a month
2. Texas can't develop a running game in a month
3. Saban has a month to get ready and wants to win, bad!
4. Our players will want to live up to the expectations.

All this other hype means nothing. When we come out and out physical Texas, they might hang with us for a while, but we will win. Bama by 13

Saban's message to the team has been "Don't let the media set you up! Prepare to play your best football and don't get screwed by external factors!"

I've never been more confident that our players will have the right attitude at game time. It seems obvious to me based on our performance this season that Saban's process has taken hold. Part of that process is mental toughness and focus - especially at crucial moments. They have that mental toughness. That fact has become more apparent as the season has progressed. It was apparent versus UT when it looked like our world was coming to an end on that final play. It was apparent versus AU on that final drive. It was very apparent the entire game versus Florida.

Some have mentioned the Utah game last year, which came on the heels of that disappointing SECC game. Well, obviously Saban fixed the team's attitude this year against Florida and I don't think he'll have much of a problem getting them in the right frame of mind against Texas in the NCG.

Maybe I'm too complacent, but I just have an overabundance of confidence that we're going to be ready for this game in a big way. I'm getting these flashes (think Medium) of Colt McCoy's eyes bulging out of his head as he steps to the line (think Torretta in '92).

Roll Tide and try to relax and enjoy the ride... :elephant:

This is just the treatment you get when you are the favorite in the NC. After the NC, the winner gets the same treatment during the offseason. Ive never gotten the sense that it has gone to the players heads(with some players like Rolo making sure of that).

But it isnt like if we set their passions alight itll bring a brand new challenge than what weve already faced. as saban says, that stuff only lasts for about 5 minutes before reality sets into the football game.

The only way this all matters is if we come out flat for the NC game. Can you imagine a Bama team doing that?

All but one of those Heisman losers were QBs - the other non-QB loser being Reggie Bush. It's also convenient to stop at '98 but why? Let's go back to '93 and add 2 QBS and 1 CB that won both. Then we can add Leinert in '04. Compare that with 5 QBs and 1 RB that have lost since then and the Heisman trophy winner record is 4-6 - hardly a jinx. I might add that NONE of those Heisman losses was an SEC player - NONE. And one of the winners (Wuerfel) was!

Did we not already break the SI "jinx" this year? Oh ye of little faith. Repeat after me, "there is no such thing as a jinx, there is no such thing as a jinx." Did we not beat Auburn in Auburn with Saban? Did we not put two 12-0 seasons back to back? Did we not......? Do we not see the incredible depth, constitution, and character of the 2009 Crimson Tide? Do we really need to doubt that this team will have uber-laser-focus for this game? Oh ye of little faith.....
