šŸ“” The Patriots have fired OC Matt Patricia.

Run to set up the pass, pass to set up the run. Bingo
When Tua took the reins at QB, philosophically, I believe we saw the transition from one to the other: pass to set up the run. That continued through Bryce. In a sense this is what I was alluding to earlier.

Getting off track for a second, one of the best attributes we see with the offense ran by Lincoln Riley is how he schemes his wide receivers open. His QB's get the credit most of the time; the scheme is set aside.

When Marrone was coaching the offensive line I came to the conclusion he was asking his unit to execute blocking schemes that would be "old hat" for an NFL lineman, but a struggle for collegiate guys. With O'Brien, I see the same thing except here it's what I mentioned earlier. His game plan for Bryce was an NFL type approach (throwing guys open instead of scheming guys open.)

They both work. But I see a flaw in the approach that's not on the QB but more on the receivers. A guy jumping from high school ball to college ball...it's going to take some time, and a lot of reps, for them to get accustomed to being thrown open versus just getting open.

Based on what I've learned as well as what we've seen with Coach Wolf recruiting a different type of lineman, it looks like they'll return to more of a "run to set up the pass" approach.

And I firmly believe Ty has the tools to "throw a guy open" if they continued this approach.

But is TY gonna get a chance

If not in Tuscaloosa, somewhere.

I see this going in one of two ways. One, like Blake Barnett, Milroe gets the nod to start the season but is soon replaced as starter, Or two (which I believe is what we're going to see) Ty is the starter coming out of spring camp and Milroe transfers.
Cant disagree Milroe is big. Fast. Tough
Arkansas. Lsu. Last years forida All had such. Or has.

TY. Is a QB. Strong arm Big.

These days they wont sit and learn like jones

Spring should be fun. See how ns handles

Like @TerryP I believe that Ty will be our QB. I think that Ty has that ā€œthrow a guy openā€ factor while Milroe is more of a throw to ā€œopen guyā€. Milroe needs a QB coach to work on his mechanics. I love the kid and love his effort. I just feel he will end up somewhere else in a scheme to better fit his talents with designed QB runs.

It will be interesting to see how Nick handles this QB battle. He sure doesn't need for either of these two to leave after spring drills so I expect both finish drills as #1 with the position battle to be settled this fall.

Oh, and nobody is going to fix Milroe's throwing motion.

Will more than likely grab a guy for depth from the portal regardless. In the end, if heathy, Simpson will be QB1 IMO... and it won't be particularly close. And that isn't a shot at Milroe, who I like... it is based on feedback from people who saw some bowl prep and got feedback from the staff re: their expectations of him.

I think Simpson wins the quarterback spot as well. Milroe is great and a heck of an athlete, but Alabama will need a guy that can get the ball downfield in the passing game as we work to build our line back up. Maybe should look at him as a running back or wide receiver if he cares to try either of those at Alabama. The hit I saw him deliver and take at the end of the Vanderbilt game on that longer run was big time. he could withstand the impact on his body. He's a good guy and I want the best for him.

Throwing motion/footwork can be fixed. The kid has a cannon. It may be that he is a big strider or has trouble flipping his hips. @#80 he has arm talent. He just has to learn when to put touch on the ball and when to just ā€œair it outā€ and let his guy run under it. He tries to hit the guy ā€œwhere he is now as opposed to where he will beā€. Big problem when throwing the deep ball! Coach Homer Smith used to tell us that he ā€œdidn’t give a shitā€ how strong an arm you had. It was all about timing! If you threw it over 42 yards in the air, then you waited too late to throw it. This goes back to what @TerryP said previously. Throwing a guy open as opposed to throwing to an open guy.
