And every report I read after Bowlsby's comments (one school having 97) was pointing to...???

From CBS Sports.

At one point on a conference call last month, Bowlsby made reference to unnamed program that had 97 staff members.

It is largely perceived in coaching circles that Alabama, not Notre Dame, has the largest staff. In the survey, Alabama is credited with a total staff size of 31. According to the survey, that would tie Missouri and Ole Miss for sixth in the SEC and tie for 28th nationally.

Notre Dame has the largest football staff in the country, according to an NCAA survey obtained exclusively by CBS Sports.

The Irish have a combined 45 on-field coaches, strength coaches, graduate assistants and support staff, according to the survey distributed to the NCAA Council last month. Notre Dame is followed closely in the top five by Texas (44), Georgia (42), Auburn (41) and Michigan (40).

The survey lists staff in five categories: on-field coaches, strength and conditioning, graduate assistants, football operations and off-field/recruiting.

The first three categories are considered static numbers limited by the NCAA. It's the last two categories -- football ops and off field/recruiting -- that are unlimited.

Using just those support staff numbers, Georgia (23) is No. 1 in the survey, followed by Clemson (22), Michigan (22), Texas (22) and Alabama (20).

Notre Dame is credited with 19 support staffers.

Proving the size of your staff doesn't matter?

why does this even matter?

man, the things that pass for "news" during the off-season is too funny sometimes.
This all started after the BCSNC when Bama beat Texas. Along with "what if Colt didn't get hurt" Mack Brown was complaining about the size of the support staff at Bama and pointing to it as one of the other reasons Texas lost. Since then, we've seen more than one outcry coming from those in the Almost 12 about staff sizes along with other schools proposing legislation to limit schools on who/how many they could hire.

Believe you me, there are a lot out there that don't understand how a former head coach, like Locksley, would take a job as an analyst. It really matters to them.

The naysayers won't let facts get in the way of an all out agenda to try and subdue BAMA's success ... from the recruiting rule , to this . They want to " level the playing field ".

When in actually it's not so much coachs scouting kids in the off season or size of staff it's the actual players dedication and quality of coaching that's demands that dedication ....

That is why a lot of star players don't want to come to BAMA , it's also the reason a lot of star kids do .
