💬 The impact of cord cutting?

Yeah, data caps alone are no buene for me. Luckily I get DSL for Internet, but TV is satellite the only traditional option if you're willing to fork over money, which I'm not. Once the snow melts I'll continue my quest for OTA. Tempted to mount the antenna on a telescoping flag pole or a tree.
Internet...what internet! Hard to believe....no internet available and hughes net is worthless....

Affiliate stations of Fox/NBC/ABC/CBS within a certain distance have veto authority over you getting another affiliate over sattelite (they used to at least, not sure about now). Back over 20 years ago all of the locals refused me even though I was in a valley that was covered in trees. My outside antenna got spotty service at best and only for a couple of stations. Their solution was one over the valley and trees at my expense. That was something like 75 feet. I did without them for a long time. I only got to see a few games a year. Went back to the only cable service as soon as my contract was up.

I imagine you're in hilly country like me, so Over The Air (OTA) antenna's probably won't work to pick up local stations.

Back when I had DirecTV I had this yearly thing I'd do, call them up and speak with the retention department, they'd credit me $20/month for 12 months. Was about an 45 minute long phone call and such a pain, but the credit was worth it.

I just want to find an antenna that will pickup local stations, I have my doubts I'll get one to work, but I'm stubborn enough to keep trying as long as Amazon keeps accepting my returns ;). I'll restart this sometime this summer, but I have a few other big projects this summer that will probably take priority...we'll see.

I've been a DirecTV customer for over 15 years. It's the best picture due to bandwidth. They currently give me $85/month in credits thru the loyalty department. Only issue is viewing in heavy rain.

I decided to build an HD antenna this morning for 2 reasons.
1. To see how good it would work (I knew that I could build it)
2. To watch the game.

I planned on 2 hours. It ended up taking almost 4. I didn’t have the wire that I remembered having. Had about a 20 ft piece of 4 conductor SO cord and probably a 30 ft, 20 ft, and several shorter pieces of coax.....and a slightly used 1 x 3 finished pine board.
I had to strip each wire by hand. Only pics up 34 channels

I am going to make a Fractal antenna next, supposed to get much better signal gain.

My current lineup

Cable modem for internet I can stream in 3 rooms and play xbox1 online simultaneously

Roku w/following streaming services
Hulu (keep live package during FB season, drop live part after szn)

I cannot imagine going back to DTV and hughesnet which was what I had for years before I moved

I’ve got the above plus Sling and make a contribution to our local PBS station. With that contribution you have way more to watch than we could ever watch.
I have considered trying the Disney + after the CFP when I drop Sling.
