🏈 The Facebook dude stops by Bama football facility

Some context as to why he's been in Alabama the last few days. Travel the world, meet lots of people, and write the entire thing of as a business expense...what a way to travel.

Facebook should rebrand itself to FakeNews or something similar. It's by far the biggest platform for fake news in the world, possibly universe :)

Zuckerberg is a ******* tool. Tries to act all Liberal, but then tries to crush others with his money. Typical hypocrite.

Recruiting gold? No one is coming to Alabama because the founder of Facebook stopped by once.
Your emotional opinion blinds you. Of course players are coming because of Saban and Alabama. That doesn't mean the optics of a meeting with the Facebook dude doesn't look cool to recruits.

Saban doesn't meet anyone with a photog session just all willy nilly.

I'd have to say you lack a little bit of intelligence if you think this meeting has helped our recruiting in football or with general academics. Sure, Saban meeting with a billionaire is a photo session the executives love, but Saban doesn't give one fuck about Facebook or its founder. You can bet the farm on that. And the recruits and players aren't getting all warm and fuzzy inside because of this, and you can figure that one by basically following the landscaoe of recruiting. It's more about how they are treated and the exposure you can give them, not about a Silicon Valley billionaire dropping by for a day.

Zuck's in the top 10 of richest people in the world, all made within the last 10 years. He's important, whether you agree with his views or not.

I'm not a fan of him, but denying his ability to influence is just silly.

Influence who and what? Sure, Facebook was gold when it first started, but then he put it in the hands of any goofball with a computer and it went off the deep end. Making money off the dumb masses is smart business and will make you a quick millionaire or billionaire, but saying he is a good influence is another. What he's attempting to do to the tribes in Hawaii is not influencing anyone other than people like me that think he is a hypocrite and as arrogant as they come. And why is he important? By my count he has not created anything saving humanity, keeping the world spinning, or anything else that puts true value in a lerson's daily life, unless bragging about how great your life is, how country you are, or posting a selfie is saving your life.

Facebook influences hundreds of millions of people daily, not to mention he's one of the technology leaders that regularly meets with big time players in the political, social, and business worlds. He's part of a group of technology people that meets with the POTUS.

He's made it easy for people (friends, family, etc) to share their lives with others via an online platform that has an incredible ability to scale. Like I said, I don't really care for the guy, but his influence in such a short time is damn impressive.

I'd be willing to be the players who met him all got a kick out of meeting him. Saban will get something from this meeting, you can take that to the bank. It might be something simple, but he'll gain some insight from meeting with them that he can use. I'd argue he cares, he might not care about social media in his direct daily life, but he realizes the values of social media.

That being said, neither of my kids use Facebook, they mostly use Snapchat and some twitter/instagram. Both of my kids are in high school, I have a Junior and a Freshman.

Zuck's facing the same problem every business faces, staying relevant when the times change...

Yeah, I'm not buying hundreds of millions of users are simply influenced by the technology or the motivation to create the next big thing. They do it because it was cool and someone else did it, so they were more influenced by the current social trend to fit in with their friends. When theae people turn 80 they won't be saying Facebook was one of the greatest influences on their lives. The guy is very very very talented and smart, there's no doubt there, so his technological advising may be warranted. Of course the players probably enjoyed it because now they're in the news and now having yet another something to post on their Instagram and Facebook page. I am willing to put money none of these guys retained anything they'll use later in their life. Sure, Saban most likely picked his brain about something, but I'm betting Zuckerberg gained more he can utilize from being there with our boys, people outside of his little circle at Facebook, real Americans putting in a ton of work to make it in this world. Once again, what he has created has been great for people (though I feel it's well out of hand), but I don't see it as 'recruiting gold' or anything the University of Alabama will be benefitting from.

Below via Top 20 Facebook Statistics - Updated January 2017

According to SEC filing, for the first time, Facebook’s U.S. ad revenue will be larger than the biggest traditional media companies trailing only behind Google.

Updated February 21, 2017

  1. Worldwide, there are over 1.86 billion monthly active Facebook users (Facebook MAUs) which is a 17 percent increase year over year. (Source: Facebook as of 02/01/17) What this means for you: In case you had any lingering doubts, statistically, Facebook is too big to ignore.
  2. There are 1.15 billion mobile daily active users (Mobile DAU) for December 2016, an increase of 23 percent year-over-year. (Source: Facebook as of 2/01/17) This is hugely significant and shows the dramatic growth of mobile traffic on Facebook.
  3. 1.23 billion people log onto Facebook daily active users (Facebook DAU) for September 2016, which represents a 18% increase year over year (Source: Facebook as 02/01/17) The Implication: A huge and vastly growing number of Facebook users are active and consistent in their visits to the site, making them a promising audience for your marketing efforts.
  4. There are 1.74 billion mobile active users (Mobile Facebook MAU) for December 2016 which is an increase of 21% year-over-year (Source: Facebook as of 02/01/17).
  5. On average, the Like and Share Buttons are viewed across almost 10 million websites daily. (Source: Facebook as of 10/2/2014)
  6. In Europe, over 307 million people are on Facebook. (Source: Search Engine Journal) The Takeaway: This isn’t just a U.S. phenomenon – a worldwide market is available via Facebook.
  7. Age 25 to 34, at 29.7% of users, is the most common age demographic. (Source:Emarketer 2012) What this means for you: This is the prime target demographic for many businesses’ marketing efforts, and you have the chance to engage these key consumers on Facebook.
  8. Five new profiles are created every second. (Source: ALLFacebook 2012) The Implication: Your potential audience on Facebook is growing exponentially.
  9. Facebook users are 76% female (out of 100% of all females) and 66% male (out of 100% of all males). This is stat is one that you really have to think about because it’s comparing the percentage of all females against the percentage of all males who are on Facebook. Sorry for the confusion. To dig a little deeper take a look at this study which does a much better job at explaining the nuances – Source: Brandwatch – Men vs. Women: Who Is More Active on Social Media?) The Takeaway: Since this isn’t a large statistical difference, you should be able to effectively reach both genders on Facebook.
  10. Highest traffic occurs mid-week between 1 to 3 pm. (Source: Bit.ly blog) On another note, a Facebook post at 7pm will result in more clicks on average than posting at 8pm (Source: Forbes). Go figure. How this can help you: You have the potential to reach more consumers and drive higher traffic to your site during peak usage times, but people may be more likely to be more engaged in the evenings. This statistic may be a factor when you are planning social communication scheduling. (Also consider that Facebook has a global audience, so you may want to plan around the time zone of your key market.)
  11. On Thursdays and Fridays, engagement is 18% higher. (Source: Bit.ly blog) The Implication: Again, use this information to determine when to post in order to optimize your social media marketing efforts.
  12. There are 83 million fake profiles. (Source: CNN) The Takeaway: Nothing is perfect, so always remain thoughtful and strategic in your efforts. Also, fake or not, these are still potential consumers. There are various reasons for fake profiles, including professionals doing testing and research, and people who want to segment their Facebook use more than is possible with one account.
  13. Photo uploads total 300 million per day. (Source: Gizmodo) The Implication: Again, this is an indication of engaged users; also, it is an indication that there are a lot of photos, as well as other information, competing for users’ attention, so target your efforts strategically.
  14. Average time spent per Facebook visit is 20 minutes. (Source: Infodocket) What this means for you: You could have a short time period to make your impression, so use it wisely with relevant, interesting and unique posts and offers in order to get the most return on your efforts.
  15. Every 60 seconds on Facebook: 510,000 comments are posted, 293,000 statuses are updated, and 136,000 photos are uploaded. (Source: The Social Skinny) The Implication: Again, there are a lot of engaged and active users, but also a huge amount of information competing for their attention, so quality and strategy on your part matter.
  16. 4.75 billion pieces of content shared daily as of May 2013 which is a 94 percent increase from August 2012. (Source: Facebook)
  17. 50% of 18-24 year-olds go on Facebook when they wake up. (Source: The Social Skinny) What this means for you: Facebook is important to these users, and potentially, if done correctly, so is the content you post on it.
  18. One in five page views in the United States occurs on Facebook. (Source: Infodocket 2012) How this helps you: This is a huge market on the web; if you use social media marketing efforts on Facebook well, you could have huge returns to show for it.
  19. 42% of marketers report that Facebook is critical or important to their business. (Source: State of Inbound Marketing 2012 The Takeaway: This is a crowded marketplace, but you can’t afford to sit it out, because odds are fairly high that your competition is there. The key is to use Facebook marketing correctly and make sure that your efforts stand out from the crowd.
  20. 16 Million local business pages have been created as of May 2013 which is a 100 percent increase from 8 million in June 2012. (Source: Facebook). Facebook marketing has transformed how business is conducted, and its use by local businesses to extend their markets continues to explode.
Thought to take with you: At 1.86 billion, Facebook has more monthly active users than WhatsApp (500 million), Twitter (284 million) and Instagram (200 million)—combined (Source: CNBC). Please note that this is no longer true. Instagram now has over 600 million users according to Instagram’s report December 21, 2016. Facebook continues to reign in popularity over other social media channels, but the competition is mounting.

Read this @BamaFan334. It spells INFLUENCE :D

I used to enjoy Facebook when it was only for college kids as I felt it had a purpose (I joined in 2002, first year it started when you had to have a college email address)(quit in 2010), but with ten year old kids joining, fights and crimes being posted, and all the nastiness that has erupted on Facebook, it's just blah to me. I get I'm not of the current modern mold when it comes to most things, but I feel Facebook has done more bad than good up to this point. I mean, just look at recruiting and how fanbases rip on these kids that don't choose their school as a small piece of my point. We'll see if he holds up like some of the establishments of American business.

I use Facebook to keep updated on family & friends I have in Alabama, considering I haven't lived there in 25 years. I rarely post on Facebook.

I get tired of reading ignorant posts that are clearly bullshit that folks could validate on snopes.com, the silly if you agree copy/paste this, all the meme's, the political propaganda, etc. This is precisely the influence I'm talking about. Not to mention Facebook's ability to manipulate the information on it to spread further social/political propaganda...just like Google.
