🏀 The building of the new Alabama coaching staff

Safe to say? He's going to get a local guy to fill out the staff, considering the others aren't from around here.
As the third? He could, but Pett does fill that role. I'm thinking the third position is more centered on the X and O's versus the recruiting front. I don't know. Hodgeson and Pett are the two on the recruiting front for now.

I would think this selection is more based on recruiting who knows the lay of the land and best relationship with high school coaches.
So I might lean toward Pett.

@#80, I think we're saying the same thing and you've misunderstood what I said. I've felt all along Pett was the only guy retained and have been calling him the second coach hired. It's the third we don't know.

When Oats brought his DBO this was expected; writing on the wall type of thing. He did a good job at Bama.

Idk, I don't keep up with HS basketball much.
For every Jeremy Pruitt you have a Rush Probst. For every Gus Malzahn you have a Chad Morris? (not sure what to make of him yet.) For every Bucky McMillon ...

And the pro-hire a high school coach crowd has Oats to point to now.

If he keeps Pett, there's no need for another in-state guy specifically because "he knows what grits are."

I thinks it's smart for CNO to retain at least one current assistant so Bucky will have to wait unless he decides to use a larger staff.

Can CNO do what Saban does and hire a bunch of analyst and quality control staff? Anything that restricts this other than the university agreeing to the budget?

BB budget is much smaller than football. I would think there is a limit on assistant coaches and I doubt Bucky would want to be an analyst.

JMO but spending Mo Money on off the court staff that beat the bushes for talent across the country would be money well spent. Depending on talent from the state of Alabama isn't the answer to raising the bar on the BB program.

Go get us some of the international players that Gonzaga has every year. As soon as one and done players go away it's going to get even harder to stock with premium talent. Talent is where you find it.

The NCAA rules on recruiting and size limitations on staff's.

The "on the floor" staff is going to consist of four guys. Along with Oats Hodgeson is official, Petty is heavily speculated to be the second, and we're left with the third opening.

Bucky could be hired into that third position. He can only be hired into that third position if Trendon signs with Bama. The same rule changes that were implemented in football apply here: if a high school coach of a recruit is hired by the University the player signs with it has to be an on the court position. They can't be hired as an analyst or other support role.

That doesn't eliminate Bucky. However, considering how Pett is viewed with his role in recruiting and Hodgeson is considered to be the recruiting ace with Oats, we're left with the question I threw out earlier.

Does Bama need to further reaffirm an instate presence with Bucky and Pett? Or, is it a better move to go with a third assistant that's more of a X and O's type as Oats implements his system? Personally, the smart move seems to be the latter: finding a third assistant outside of the state circle.

Men's basketball coaching staff beginning to take shape - Bama Central

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Sources tell BamaCentral that former University of Alabama basketball player, and six-year assistant coach Antoine Pettway, is expected to be retained by Nate Oats.

The new head coach is already bringing Bryan Hodgson along from Buffalo, who was the Bulls’ primary recruiter, along with Mike Snowden as strength and conditioning coach.

Personally, I would go after an X's and O's guy that is familiar with my system. He does have a guy, but he is currently serving as the interim at UB isn't he @TerryP ? Is this 3rd position his if he wants it? Is Bucky given a shot should this guy get the HC position at UB?
